ABC Foreign Language school is recruiting teachers from the United States to come to China and teach in a language school where they are underpaid and treated like work horses. The salary is too low for the high demand on the teachers, and the hours are too long. The company doesn't honor their contracts...they only use them when it's convenient to them. The company takes 40% of your first salary, but cannot explain how the math is done. Example: My salary for the first month should have been 7,500RMB...I was paid 725RMB. If you can figure out what that is 40% of, you are much more clever than I am. The company doesn't provide teaching materials, save for an eraser and 2 white board pens. They do not provide books for the teachers to teach with. The books they do provide after you bother them enough are usually taken from some other teacher who left them on their desk. The covers are often ripped off, pages written and drawn on, and pages are missing or falling out. The books themselves are even unsatisfactory....they haven't been updated since 1967. The native staff are treated like slaves. They are often publicly humiliated and cannot get out of the contracts that they themselves signed. They are underpaid and worked entirely too much. The company tells prospective clients that all the teachers at the school are native speakers of English...this is a lie. Most of the teachers are from non-English speaking countries, and in most cases, they are also working at the school illegally. They are told to lie directly to clients if they are asked about where they are from. Clients pay too much money for this school to be ripped off in the way that they are. Do not come to this company for work or as a student!
