24th of Jan, 2010 by User239178
I was searching for a mobile mechanic on craigslist, BIG MISTAKE, DON'T DO IT! I came across several ads and contacted a few. I ultimately chose Andy (Andre) Volsteedt a mobile mechanic from South Africa/London. He has a heavy ascent and PRETENDS to be friend. My car wouldn't start so I called him, he checked it out and told me what parts I needed. So later I got the parts, told asked him could he come back in about 2 days at certain time, Well instead of the mourning he shows up at night rushing. I asked him are you going to be able to see? He said yeah. 20 mins later he comes back in saying he fixed the problem, and that his first diagnose was incorrect, and that we didn't need the part at all but he fixed it. This should have been a RED FLAG! He told it was running and I would have no problems going anywhere. He told me he wanted the same amount of money that we had agreed upon. At first I though it was kind of strange, but trusted him like a fool. Since he had only done 20 mins of work and used no parts. But I gave him the money anyway. He leaves and I start my car and go around the corner, 2 miles or about 3 mins later my car stops dead in the middle of the road. I think to myself what happen? So I have to push this car out of traffic, up a ramp. I call a tow truck, they come look at and say the problem was the exact same part, that this IDIOT OF A MECHANIC didn't install!

I am writing to give my side of the story as to what actually happened. I drove to my customer to diagnose a no start problem with his car. I found that there was no fuel coming to the injectors. Further test showed that fuel pump was not delivering the fuel. I told Jazz that he would need a fuel pump. He said that he would purchase his own parts and that he would call me to fit it once it arrived.I did not charge him anything at that point even though I spent an hour driving to his house and had to pay for gas and Tollgate charges to get there. He called me the following week to say that he had the part.

I arrived back at his house and started to work. When I removed the fuel pump, I found a lot of dirt had clogged it up, causing it to stop pumping. This is caused by a lot of dirt inside the tank.

I cleaned out the pump and it started working again, so I thought I could save my customer some money by giving him back the pump and telling him that he could return it. At that point he was very pleased. I told him that there was a lot of dirt that I found and that the tank would need to be cleaned out and that he should try to not drive the car with such a little fuel in the tank as this could cause the pump to pick up dirt again.

I asked him to pay me $60. This would include me driving out to his location twice. It would also include the diagnostic on the computer as well as a fuel pressure test. It would also include the labor of me removing the pump and cleaning it and then fitting it again. I should have charged more than the original quote I gave him, because I didnt just replace a pump, but had to open it up to and clean it, but because I had already given him that price I kept it.

Most of my regular customers will pay me $50 to $100 extra as a tip just because they know how I have saved them precious time.

So, in my opinion, I think geting all that for $60 was a good deal on your end. Most shops charge $100 just to diagnose your car and then you have to make an appointment and drive to them and wait. I did everything for him while he stayed in the comfort of his own home, but I guess that wasnt even enough, because the more you give the more some people will want.

Then without even telling me that he was thinking of putting a bad report out there about me so that we can resolve any issues like mature people, he goes ahead to try to ruin someones reputation.

So if youre reading this and have any car issues and are looking for a mobile auto technician that you can trust with really good rates and great experience, you can call me. My name Andy Volsteedt and my number is 214-793-0793.

Have a fantastic day!
