Noble Capital submitted a Report in February that outlines exactly how Applied Business Software sets up their customers for a copyright lawsuit. In our case, we called them to get instruction on exactly how to set up the TMO installation. In fact, we had a technical issue that we resolved, and then explained to them how to fix their software for this kind of installation. But they waited one year, almost to the day, then called to explain that the way our software was installed was a copyright violation. They demanded $70,000 or they were going to file suit and get an injunction preventing us from using the software (thus shutting us down). We had not intentionally violated the copyright, and in fact, had not used the software with more than two users as was our license. However, because we had accessed the software with one computer, then replaced it with a new computer, that was counted as two computers, and a violation of the software agreement. And because we had accessed the software from a desktop, and then used a laptop when we went home, that was counted as two computers, in violation of the software agreement. Not once did we hear that our installation was improper, even though they walked us through the installation. Not once did they call to see why it appeared that we were using more than two computers (they did not want to tip us off that there was a problem). It was a total shakedown. Applied Business Software is making large sums of money shaking down customers (look for their "press releases" and you will find a portion of the companies that they have sued - we know of several that aren't showing up on the web, including us, but most can't say anything because ABS will sue them). If you think they won't do this to you, you are sadly mistaken. Find some other software to use. It is difficult because ABS has a bit of a corner on the market, but that is only because they finance their business with these copyright shakedowns. Don't fall for their sales scam - it's just a set up.
