Balboa Life Insurance
Balboa Life Insurance Group Unauthorizely charged my bank account for 4 months Alhambra, California
20th of Jun, 2011 by User986768
I'm a customer of Bank of America for 10 years, and I trusted it. No more. I should have paid close attention to my monthly bank statements...until this May, I notice that a company name Balboa has been charging me $18.95 each month since February. I called BofA and found out that this is a life insurance company. I know that I never signed up for anything with BofA, and whenever I got commercial calls from them, I immediately hung up. I asked BofA to stop that merchant from charging me, and BofA wants to charge me $30 stopping fee! This is so ridiculous. I even spoke to the manager of BofA dispute department, and all they could do for me is to freeze my bank account and filed a claim for a total of $75.80, on May 10. I was also instructed to open a new bank account and transfer over the funds. So I went to the bank in Rancho Cucamonga ( I worked there) and talked to a banker about this problem. The banker said that my account was only frozen temporarily and the action was unnecessary. In the end, I spent 1 hour at the bank trying to unfreeze my account. I didnt open a new account because I believe that after filing a claim against Balboa Life Insurance company, they would not charge me again. WRONG! Few days later I got an Affidavit of Unauthorized ACH Debit Activity paper from BofA (the bank needs this to start my claim), so I signed it and mailed back. Few days later, I called BofA again to inquire about the claim, BofA said they didnt receive my Affidavit...then seconds later...they said its hidden behind the papers. BofA says that I would see the $75.80 temporary credit back in my bank account tomorrow. The day after, I checked my account, the credit being promised is not there. On June 3, while still waiting for the fund, I checked my bank account, another $18.85 was deducted from my account. This time I went to the banker again in Alhambra, and I filed another claim. The banker found out that Balboa was originally owned by BofA, but it was sold afterwards. The banker helped me stop Balboa from charging me free. I asked him and was told that I didnt have to pay $30 stopping fee. At this point, Im so clear that every BofA branch or department speaks a different language, and all were unreliable. For the 2 claims I filed, I was given 2 timelines that Balboa needs to respond me with proof that I authorized them to charge me. For some reason the timeline of the 1st claim ($75.80) was later than the 2nd one ($18.85). Soon I called BofA, BofA says that Balboa has proved that I have authorized the charges and BofAs waiting for the proof. June 14, $18.85 for the 2nd claim was credited back to my bank account. Hoping that the 1st claim would be credited back too, toward the end of its timeline, I called BofA, BofA says that Balboa has given audio (phone) proof that I have authorized the charges, and the only way I can follow up with this claim is to call Balboa. Obviously, BofA would not want to help me deal with this problem. So I called Balboa and they said that BofA sold the insurance to me through phone, and I authorized it at the spot. I asked them to show me any paper or audio proof. Balboa says they got no paper proof, and has to request audio proof from the supervisor in order to show me. I want to speak to the supervisor NOW, and then hes not there! The audio proof would need 2 weeks to get approved. I asked how come I could get the credit of the 2nd claim back, but not the 1st one?
How come you can proof that I authorized the charge on the 2nd claim, but not the 1st one?
Balboa couldnt answer it. Until this point, I feel that Balboa tries to delay everything, and BofA refuse to help. No party wants to be responsible for anything. 10 years customer loyalty to BofA means nothing to BofA. Im leaving BofA and wants nothing to do with it. I still cannot believe that BofA is so cheap not to handle this small claim. As for the 2nd claim, Ill call Balboa again tomorrow, I want to hear what the supervisor says. This is my true story, and am warning all people to beware of Bank of America and Balboa!
