BARNES AND NOBLE
Barnes and Noble 'Bargain Priced' Books Deceitful Rockville , Maryland
8th of Jun, 2011 by User553210
I love a good deal. I was at Barnes and Noble and came across their 'bargain priced' section. There were a lot of things that caught my eye, but I narrowed it down to two items. These two items that I picked out did not have a sale sticker on them, but since it was in the 'bargain priced' section I figured that the staff had simply forgotten to relabel them. Now, I must mention that all of the books surrounding the items I chose has a sale sticker and a reduced price on them. I took the items to the counter to check out and told the cashier, "this was in the 'bargain priced' section but I couldn't find the sale price on it." The cashier glared at me and said in a snide way, "the price is $16.99, which is the price that it is marked at." Instead of getting the two items, I decided to just get one. After checking out, I went to go look back at the 'bargain priced' books to double check the prices, the book I had chosen was surrounded by marked down books under the 'bargain priced' books section. I found a store employee and asked if the book simply had not gotten a new price sticker, he looked at the book that I had purchased and on the barcode it had the letters BG...which stands for bargain priced. The employee looked at me and said, "this is a bargain priced book...just take a look at the label." It was true that it said BG on the label, and it was also true that this book was surrounded by books that were actually on sale, but I was upset because I went to the bargain priced section to get a bargain (a book that was at one point full price, but marked down). I understand that a bargain is a good deal...I understand that this book at its original price could have been seen as a bargain...but the fact that it was surrounded by books that were actually marked down made it seem that the one I chose should have been marked down as well. I told the employee that the display was deceitful and that the books that were actually full priced should be moved to another section.
I hardly ever go to Barnes and Noble, and will never go to one again because of this deceitful display.
