I purchased a kitten from Melissa MacPherson on 8/8/2012. Upon getting the kitten she had a foul odor to her, like an infection or rancid meat. I figured the smell may have been from a meal that may have included code liver oil before I got the kitten, or swimmers ear since the breeder likes to bathe her cats 1-2 per week (red flag #1). Her paws were stained yellow even through her coloring was chocolate and white and the paws were meant to be white... no where should this cat be yellow. She tried blaming it on the litter World's Best Cat litter (funny, I used the same brand for years and my white cats are still white, even without taking any baths). She had discharge from her eyes and her ears were a bright red and filthy.
I went home with my kitten and let her settle in by herself for the night and following morning. Once I got home that night, I noticed the poor kitten's rectum was sticking out of her rear a good 2cm. I rushed her to the emergency clinic (because all bad things happen on a friday night) to get fixed up since she was screaming in pain and unable to defecate even though she kept trying to use the litter box. Clearly this girl was in pain. Her rear was soaking wet with fresh blood and what diarrhea she managed to get out. I emailed Melissa to let her know what happened and that I would keep her updated. The emergency clinic took all night before finally having to opt for a purse loop stitch to be placed in her rear to keep the rectum in place and from coming out again. Except the next morning the kitten now was blocked due to her lovely case of Giardia. Not even a full 24 hours of having this kitten in my arms and we are already at the vets and not by choice with the threat of returning to the vets due to how blocked she was becoming even with help to clean her rear. I did not trust leaving her alone all day while I worked. This was not something I expected from a kitten I paid over a grand for. I've seen healthier kittens rescued from under trailers, yet kittens being bred are in far worse shape? How does this happen?
I asked for part of the vet bills to be paid. I fail to see how it's acceptable for 2 vet visits for major issues is ok for an animal I've owned for a mere 2 days at this point. That's when Melissa went from "Prolapsed rectums are normal he he" to ignoring me and refusing to contact me anymore.
I had to get my mother involved to email her since mine went unanswered. My mother got the blunt of her nasty gram over the matter, and she continued to pass blame to everything and anything but herself.
"days later I get an e mail from ____ about her anus, which I've been in the animal field for many years, and I've also taken it upon myself to spend all of yesterday speaking with multiple vets, and other breeders about this. All were just plain shocked that she took her in to the ER to have her anus stitched up. All were in agreement that the gun was jumped way to soon, and that she was not even given a chance for her body to go back into it's natural state. that this has been known to happen, but given chance will correct its self.... WHICH goes back into place if given a chance to do so and not shoved into an emergency vets hands for surgery. (again should have not happened until her body was given a chance to adjust to her new environment)"
" I am in no way responsible for any care or surgeries that you guys have put her through... We are not responsible for any bills incurred. . "
" I also have SPCA, do an inspection of my entire home (which is my cattery) all have come back perfect scores." --- Um, the SPCA only does inspections when others have made complaints. Vets come to inspect your house for personal accreditation that you have a healthy cattery. Appears I am not the only one.
Come to find out later she also refuses to let anyone in her house because her children do not like "strangers invading their personal space"... what?
Lets not forget the fact that she bred 5, that's right 5! cats at once! 20 something kittens sold in one month? Kitten mill much?

*Update* The kitten has gone to the vets in need of emergency care for a total of 5 times in a matter of 1 month! All with bowel issues relating back to the loaded giardia this poor kitten was sent home with. There is a high chance this kitten will not survive from the looks of it.
Do not buy from this woman. Once she receives your money she no longer cares about the well being of the animal. |

*update... The kitten was euthanized tonight. 6 surgeries later, the latest including a Colonopexy in a last attempted to fix the continuing prolapsed rectum failed once again. The vets determined she would live the rest of her life with this problem (which was that her rectum kept prolapsing literally every 2 weeks, each time worse than before). This poor kitten went through enough pain and suffering in her very short life span.
Breeder still has refused to contact me back on the issue of my ill cat. Cost of cat + vet bills now exceed $4, 000 if not more. Our vet thankfully ran a tab with us, and waived a few surgery costs due to our "frequent flier" visits. I dare not look at the bill fully. |

PLEASE READ REBUTTALS POSTED ON RIPOFF REPORT REGARDING THIS "COMPLAINT" . . . this is a one-sided, completely erroneous depiction of Bat Cave Cattery.

| Bat Cave Cattery had this kitten as well as all kitten sold check by a vet. The kitten was in perfect health when it left Melissa's hands. Kelly Vance of the Night Magic Cattery in New York and Karen Vance of the Cedarwood Cattery in Canada are totally responsible for the pain and suffering of this beautiful animal due to their carlessness. They want to find a scape goat for their actions. Maybe they should take responsiblity for their actions when it is clearly their fault. I encouage Melissa to take legal actions for the false statements posted against her and the Bat Cave Cattery with intent to cause harm. |
