I have been a long and loyal customer of Brinks/ADT. Due to personal reason i had to move from MS to NM. When we first signed up i obviously wasnt thinking that i might have to move. When we moved to NM we tried to exit our contract with Brinks. From what i have read here i am not alone in hearing that I CANNOT exit my contract without paying off the rest of my contract. When i tried to explain how i had been loyal for the past 3 years, and i was moving across country to a home without a security system, my story fell on deaf ears. I would either have to payoff my contract or RENEW WITH A FREE INSTALLATION!!! So feeling that i had no choice i renewed. (I have only signed one contract...the original) Life goes on for 2 more years. RECESSION...I had to move my family out of our home into a rental. NO MERCY. even though i was in a rental, i had to pay my security bill. i did for fear of impact on my credit. This continued for about 3 months. We bought another home and decided to get a security system since we were paying for it and didnt have one. This time I had to pay for the installation! 9-10 mths pass and again we were faced with moving across country. Trying to downsize AGAIN, we tried to exit our contract with BRINKS. Of course we CAN'T. Currently we are living in a home WITHOUT a security system and we are paying for one. Reason being its cheaper to pay the bill than install one or just payoff the contract. At this point i call BRINKS and ask them to send my contract for my review. They send the contract that i signed. NO WHERE on the contract does it say that one cannot exit the contract. It refers to other articles of the contract which we never have seen! How can this be possible or legal? I am at wits end with corporate america treating us all as CRAP! What happened to taking care of the customer? I have never been late with a payment, but now its up to me. Average joe VS BRINKS/ADT.
I cannot afford an atty, nor are there many out there that want to spend time in what seems to be petty. I understand that i am not alone here and my only purpose of writing this is to inform others of what crooks these people are. Maybe someone out there has found a way to beat them. Please help
