I ordered several items from bytheswordinc.com totaling $1120.30 on 12/1/2010 and was charged for the order the next day. A few days went by and heard nothing so I decided to call the number on the website. I spoke to a girl named Amber and she informed me that it was not in stock and told me that my order was going to ship next week. That was fine with me at that time. Two weeks went by and I never got my order nor did I hear from them. I emailed them several times asking about the status of my order and they never replied back. I called them on 12/17/2010 and asked them if I was ever going to get my order and when. They responded with Some of the items are not in stock and we do not have a date as to when they will be in, I said fine ship me what is in stock and cancel the rest of the backordered items. Well a few days went by and I did not receive any of the items they said they had, nor did I get a refund for the backordered items. I sent several emails and called them several times, and always got the same respond. After another month I decided that I have had enough and to do a chargeback on my credit card to get my money back. I thought that this was strange way to do business and decided to take a drive to their company. I lived only 30 minutes away from Bonita Springs to 1053 EL Mar Avenue Ft. Myers, FL 33919. I arrived at their location and what I discovered was it was just a home. This was very odd to me and decided to hire a private investigator. The information that I received from the private investigator is that bytheswordinc.com is own by David and Belinda Rothgeb, and they operate out of their home located at 1053 EL Mar Avenue Ft. Myers, FL 33919. Both of them are convicted of child abuse. They do not have any inventory, charge for orders that they are not going to ship, never respond to your emails and lie to their customers. This is an obviously a fraudulent operation and I warn stay away from www.bytheswordinc.com.

The above information is false and no order from Bonita Spring has been taken in any amount. This is a direct attack on one self and it is a defamation of my character and should be removed immediately.

This information is 100% correct. It happened to me as well. Thank God I only lost less than a hundred dollars, unlike the previous poster.

Beware of this scam/fraudulent website. They attract their victims with lower than usual prices and claim that things ordered are not in stock and to wait for a month and a half/2 months. This waiting period is too long for paypal, ebay and other auction/e-payment sites to allow for a complaint to be filed since their systems end up archiving payments that are longer than a month which ends up with the user's inability to file a complaint and get reimbursed.

With any business you will have complaints; however our motto is if we make a mistake, we make it right. I cannot address the complaint concerning the order mentioned in the complaint because there is no such order.
I can only imagine it comes from a competitor that wants to put a hurt on another business in an effort to gain business. I would suggest before buying from any company that you go to the Better Business Bureau and check the company out. You will find we have an A+ plus rating and you don't get that by being a rip off company. You can also go to www.archive.org as it states on our FAQ page to find out how long a company has been on the internet.
I applaud the rip-off report in trying to protect the consumer from bad business practices or just plain fraudulent companies. We have been here since 1995 and have over a million customers to date. If you feel you have a problem with anything, please call. We do answer every phone call and every email from Monday-Friday (9AM to 5PM EST). Try it. It's FREE.
We also try to educate the consumer and you can see that on our FAQ on our website. Do your home work before ordering and do not always believe what you read because you will have competition that will do things just like this.

Wow, a motto really makes me feel like I want to spend money. After I tattoo " if we make a mistake, we make it right" onto my infant sons forehead how can I ship him to BtS inc.?

We ordered gifts for people in our wedding party. After several weeks and not hearing anything, we sent an email asking about the order. We recieved "waiting on keychains" as a response. We then emailed back and asked if they could ship the rest and cancel the keychains. We recieved "letter openers in box waiting to ship". We then canceled the order. This is customer service AT IT'S WORST! We were charged $25 for enduring this. Don't order from them! I laugh at the idea that the first complaint was from a competitor, really, who would buy that "excuse".

I ordered from By The Sword, Inc. back in May. I have had the same trouble with backordered shipments and no notification thereof, and extremely spotty and terse customer service. As of now (October) I am still waiting for items from the original order after having been sent 3 different shipments and no notification as to when the remaining items have been shipped. All of this sounds like a (marginal) improvement on the other complaints, but thank god I wasn't in any hurry to get my order.

It gets worse, however. The quality of the items proved to be extremely shoddy and definitely subpar, and my complaints have been met with poor excuses. I was advised that the items they sent (chain maille links) will not properly rivet because the pliers to do the riveting (which I ordered through them at the same time) have not yet been shipped to me; however, I have acquired tools of a better quality than BTS, I by borrowing from a friend, due in large part to the incredibly slow service and aforementioned poor quality of the tools that DID arrive. I offered to supply pictures of the faulty material and did so a week ago, and once again the 'customer service' has gone silent.

I don't believe By The Sword, Inc. is a scam, but I do believe they are one of the most inept, disorganized, and unfriendly companies to deal with. They marginally undercut other options and compensate by not informing customers that everything is backordered, not communicating to the customer about shipping expectations, and responding to complaints only when hounded ad nauseum.
