The only reason to work at cellular sales is this down economy.
But be forewarned that you won't see any commissions for 2 months so cellular sales can churn and burn you if you don't pan out, try living without pay for 2 months, yet work 50 hours a week.
The commissions were above industry standard, but they cut them without reason. When starting out, you will have to work the "bad locations" in your district. Now let me be clear here, I don't think you should get handed the market's strongest locations starting out every day, but an occasional day not spent in a dead mall would be lovely for those gaining experience. This "company" and I use the term loosely is a common churn and burn. They hire you (or should i say contract with you), see how many activations they can get, hold your check for 2 months so if you quit they can claim whatever they want on charge-backs. They'll hold that check for 6 months! Charge-Backs are when someone cancels their phone service with Verizon. If you ask them about a charge-back, it gets "looked into" also known as tossed under a rug, many times the account is still open and your wondering why a $200 chargeback got taken off your check. Again, part of the reason I'm here. What job would make you become your own Corporation or LLC? Cellular Sales does, and they do this so that they can claim all of their employees as independent contractors, they do this to get around paying taxes, and place all of the burden on you, the lowly contractor to pay your own taxes. Cellular Sales is under constant scrutiny from the IRS, because trust me you are treated as an employee, with a SET schedule, and a SET monthly meeting, usually at a far off store at 6AM, because god help them if they had a meeting at 930PM, how would they get out to the Bars?? The IRS would be investigating this because it is illegal to make a contractor subject to set schedules and set meeting times. Your independent right? This brings me to my next point, you better be willing to spend some of your hard earned money going out to the bars and clubs with middle management (they are the ones that will stick you in a mall location with no foot traffic for 12 hours) But wait, you haven't gotten paid for 1st 60 days? Sorry! There were many rumors and most of them substantiated with truth that one of our regional managers was caught stealing sales from a contractor. The man who already gets paid a percentage of the sale anyway, stealing from someone whom the contractor thought was an ally. So don't get too chummy and talk to middle management about possible business deals you may be closing (they can close it for you, and keep all that $). Also when phones get stolen you are charged the full retail price of the phone, when CSOKI gets the phone for far far less, it's just to squeeze another nickel out of someone working 50 hours a week. You get no health benefits, there's no 401K, there's no base salary, you may see dollar signs when managers tell you how much they make a month. That's just what it is, what they make. you'll be stuck in a dead mall, wishing you hadn't left a job with health benefits for your family because that comes out of your monthly expenses now. I "contracted" with cellular sales for over a year, I am not just a bitter former employee, I left of my own accord for the reasons above. Your sales numbers will have nothing to do with the schedule you receive, the only thing you need is to be willing to give your soul to Dane Scism, Who has masterminded the perfect scheme to make himself one of the richest people in TN.
