Citibank
fraud, unfair banking/business, banking errors, overdraft fees on closed account plus unauthorized charges
14th of May, 2011 by Sasha Walker
In December 2010 I closed my Citibank Money Market account, It was not conducive to my banking needs cause I was not able to maintain the minimum balance required in order to avoid paying an additional $42.50 for having a Money Market Account. At the time of closing out my account I opened a basic banking account that included a checking and savings. I also applied for overdraft protection that was pending approval for a couple weeks until I was notified via mail that I was not approved. Before I closed my Money Market Account with Citibank in December I was able to access this account online when I did my banking. Now since closing this account I still continue to do my banking online and when I use this site daily the only account that shows up is my basic checking and saving account. The past few months I have been living hand to mouth and have been constantly being charged with overdraft fees for unauthorized transactions. Amongst these unauthorized transactions are misc debits and credit charges that always entail an overdraft charge. I went into the bank last week and got a print out of banking activity and canceled my card in order to attempt to get a better handle on my banking. It was not until I checked a random email sent from Citibank that I was able to see what the issue has been with my bank and where my money was going. The Money Market Account I had closed remains open. I went into the bank this past Monday and brought in copies of all my bank statements that do not show this Money Market Account and I brought in copies of my account activity that I am able to access from Citibank online service, in addition I also copied the email sent from Citibank showing that the Money Market Account I had closed was in fact open. Having said all of this I was told that even though it is a bank error I would not be reimbursed my money that had been eaten up in unauthorized transactions, unauthorized transfers, unauthorized debit and credits, and the monthly $42.50 charged since December on a account they failed to close. I was given a credit for this recent monthly charges to again an account they failed to close and one other $34.00 overdraft charge and a $10.00 overdraft check transfer protection fee charge a crude on there banking error. The best part of this really bad joke is again when leaving the bank the Money Market Bank account was suppose to be closed, it is not. This account does not show up when I go to the Citibank website, when I go into the bank, or in my monthly statements mailed to me, however I do get emails from Citibank and this is the only place that shows of this account. I am so tired of big banking. unfair business tactics and ultimately the fraud that corporations like Citibank continue to get away with.
