David Hazan
David Hazan DDS David Hazen DDS , Orlando Oral Implant Center Attempted to RIP ME OFF to the tune of $1600 for a single simple tooth extraction ALTAM
13th of Apr, 2011 by User464350
Monday morning April 11,2011, approx 930am I went into Orlando Oral Implant Center Altamonte Springs FL and saw Dr David Hazan DDS (aka David Hazen DDS) . I was suffering badly from a toothache. Being this was my first visit with Dr Hazan I had to fill out the customary new patient paperwork. I handed it in to receptionist and she told me to go back into waiting room and wait she would be with me shortly. After a short time waiting in the small waiting room they called my name and buzzed me thru the electronic bolted door that seperates the waiting room from the receptionist counter. We then went over my problem, I was in a lot of pain. I explained to them I had been suffering with a broken tooth all weekend. I pleaded with them to please help me. I was in a lot of pain. They told me it would cost $100 for an xray and a consult. I agreed. They immediately asked me for my debit card. I found that strange, usually you pay for services when you are done, but it was not a big problem at that point so I gave them my debit card and they charged me the $100. I was very eager to get the tooth removed it was hurting badly. Davis Hazan then appeared at the counter and instructed me to sit in the dental xray chair, He was wearing an oversized surgical face mask, surgical hat, and large glasses, but it was not "normal" looking I have had many surgeries on a bad leg and have also had a few teeth extracted over the years , it appeared to me he was trying to hide his face from me intentionally. I got a very strange feeling. The electronic buzzer doors, the payment upfront, it all was just starting to seem weird. But I was in extreme pain and just wanted help fast. Well he sat me in the chair and Hazan looked into my mouth with light and tool and instructed his assistant to take an xray of the tooth. It was not even 1 minute after his assistant took the xray and pulled the film holder out of my mouth that he leaned over and said something to the effect , we have a problem, this was a wisdom tooth and he would have to take the xray using a different machine. The cost would be an extra $225 for this xray. I was shocked for a few reasons , number one was how could he have developed that piece of film they just took out of mouth in under 1 minute? and how come he could not tell it was a wisdom tooth when he inspected my mouth before the first xray , and then I was confused as to why that first xray was no good , why did he make me do this first $100 xray if he knew it was a wisdom tooth and needed the $225 xray, and again, no way he even had developed the film so it could not have told him anything. I was in extreme pain at this point. I voiced my displeasure over this added cost and he assured me we had to take a 2nd more costly xray with the other xray machine because this was a wisdom tooth, He assured me he would have me out of pain very quickly. I was hesitant but I agreed, I told them OK. I was still in the dental chair in agony and here comes his assistant with the credit card machine IN HAND to run the added $225 charge on my card on the spot. I was literally still in the dental chair as they ran my card for this added $225 xray ON THE SPOT IN THE DENTAL CHAIR! Now I have spent $325 thus far. He asked me if I was anxious and I told him yes. He said he wanted to medicate me before he extracted the tooth. He said it was the best way to go and I agreed. But he said I needed a ride home. I had come alone. I was in lot of pain and I did NOT have anyone to drive me home, it was during working hours. I finally contacted my son and worked out a ride home but I had to go pick him up so he could drive my vehicle home. They told me to be back at 12 noon. When me and my son got back to the the office I was in extreme pain. I could not get thru the electronic bolted door to get to the front counter, but the receptionist nodded and acknowledged me. About 5 minutes later she told me to come back and buzzed me thru the security doors. She had a bill waiting for me on the counter, to collect payment on the spot. When I looked at the total I almost fell to the floor. They wanted another $1275.00 to extract my tooth! I could NOT believe this was happening. I had already paid them the $100 for xray and consult, and another $225 for the 2nd "special" xray , and now they wanted $1275.00 to finish the job. I was shocked at the amount. They were trying to charge me $1600.00 to have a tooth extracted! I literally asked her "are you kidding". She infomed me no that was the cost to have a wisdom tooth removed and she assured me they would have me out of pain in a maTter of a few more minutes. I had already spent the $325 , that money was gone, I was in extreme pain and I seriously considered paying it for a minute. Then I looked over at my son, he looked at me with bewilderment in his eyes, and I said, Lets go we are leaving. I refuse to be taken advantage of any longer today. And I left the property. I was extremely distraught in agony, and just in awe of what had transpired. I consider myself a fairly street smart person and as I thought thru what went on it was clear I was being taken advantage of. I had stumbled into a trap. It was now about 1pm and I was in extreme pain. I called my primary care Dr and explained to him the situation and he told me to come in to his office so he could get me a pain killer and antibiotic so I would not get infected. I then was forced to struggle thru another night in extreme pain, it was so late in day I could not get to a real dentist until the next morning. Tuesday morning I contacted Greenburg dental in Winter Park. They told me to come right in. I was extremely paranoid about the charges and demanded to know what this would cost. The xray and consult was $30! The complete job, Xray, Consult, Extract wisdom tooth was $289 TOTAL - That INCLUDED the $30 consult xray fee. The tooth came out in minutes. The assistants and the dentist at Greenburg was awesome. When the dentist at Greenburg finished with the extraction I went to front counter and paid the $289. Then went home in relief.. but that is were the story again takes a turn. I was very upset about the way I as scammed by David Hazan, I was charged $325 for a $30 xray. But I started thinking about the way the office was setup with that electronic door, the way David Hazan was hiding his face and the way they flipped me into that 2nd more expensive xray, and ran my credit card as I was in the chair, It all seemed all to well orchestrated to me. When I got home I ran a google search for David Hazan DDS Altamonte Springs FL. The TOP results were ripoffreport.com listings. I WAS FREAKING OUT. The first one I read was from a man named Mark , and he had a situation much like mine! He was put thru the EXACT SAME ROUTINE AS I WAS PUT THRU! The $100 xray consult , then all of a suuden the ooo no we have problem , we need to do a $225 xray , and then they did same and got him for the big money. I was FREAKING OUT! This was the EXACT - IDENTICAL WAY THEY SCAMMED ME. I knew right then and there I had to make sure others heard my story and knew the facts about what he is doing. His operation is preying on people in pain, and they are following a premeditated script to extract money from suffering people while in the dentist chair in pain, all the while promsing They will have you out of pain in a few minutes. I can only imagine how many people have fallen for this and have gotten taken advantage of. It is clear reading the other reports on David Hazan DDS there is a pattern of premeditated abuse and overcharging and taking advantage of patients in pain. I plan on escalating this to law enforcement, The Orlando Sentinel , Fox news and other local news agencies over the coming days. I am also going to contact the medical boards and check on his license and file a complaint. As well I plan on consulting with an attorney at my personal expense to try and uncover how many other patients has he ripped off with his "special $225 xray" and $1200 extractions. IMO there are others that are too ashamed to speak up etc.. It is clear that Dr David Hazan Orlando Oral implant center is following a premeditated script to deceive and take advantage. I can only hope someone will read these reports BEFORE falling prey to this premeditated scripted scam. Submitted by Jimmy P on 04/14/2011
