When I purchased my new home 7 years ago I requested a 10 year structural warranty which expires in february,2014. This warranty was in addition to the one year workmanship and material home warranty. Observing worsening cracks on walls and on the foundation over the years I summited a claim to Debbie Wood Builders, Inc. and the Bonded Builders Warranty Group. At my expense I hired several proffesional companies and a Liscensed Registered Structural Engineer to assess and vaildate my concerns. The recommendation is that " The evidence of cracks in the foundations and interior wall finishes ,the positioning of various interior doors and the laser floor level measurements are all consistent with settling of the the load-bearing foundations at the back of the home.The rear foundations were constructed over backfilled soil that either were not properly compacted when placed or the soil type was not suitable for structural fill". According to the Structural Engineer " the magnitude of movementof this home and it's relatively young age a structural solution will ultimatly be required to avoid significant structural damage and to mitigate future safety concerns". Debbie Wood Bilders, Inc. refuses to take responsibility for reparing the problem and reported the damage to Bonded Builders Warranty Group as merely a crack and they have refused to take responsibilty to make the repairs as well and denied my summitted claim.
