Diamond Resorts International DRI Coersed into signing away rights Internet
12th of Jun, 2011 by User329625
The first issue I experienced with DRI was regarding a price protection.
In 2008, a salesman at the presentation offered be price protection for life if I purchased additional points that day. After recieving the paperwork and signing it, I decided it was too good to pass up so I purchased an additional 1000 points. Then in 2010 while at a DRI resort in Orlando FL, I was told that if I sat through an hour presentation, I would receive free tickets to Universal Studios without any obligation to purchase additional points. So I booked the presentation. After sitting through a video and listening to the salesman talk about new resorts, I was told that the price protection I signed in 2008 was really for 1 year only. I argued with him and refused to sign away the lifetime price protection. He told me that if I could produce the paperwork from 2008, he would not make me sign. Which was not a reasonable request since I was in vacation in Florida without the paperwork from 2008. He then told me that if I didn't sign away the price protection, I would get nothing for sitting through the presentation. I am a single mother who is still paying off the timeshare and could not afford to pay for the Universal tickets myself and was relying on the free tickets for my son and I. So basically, I was trapped in a corner and felt I had no choice but to sign the document to give up the lifetime price protection at the rate which I purchased points in 2008. A year has passed since this incident in Orlando and after much consideration, I decided to book Williamsburg again this summer. There was some sort of calendar error when booking online, and I ended up booking a couple of days later than I wanted. So I called customer service to change 2 days and was told that I have an outstanding balance on my account which will need to be paid before the phone service rep would even discuss my account with me. I was told the balance is an additional finance charge from last year's maintenance fee which I paid online in full as shown in my account balance. And although I did not understand why this fee was due, I paid it in order to discuss the issue with the booking I made online. After explaining the situation, I was told I would need to either cancel the booking and loose 50% of the points (which would not allow me to book again) or I could just add the additional 2 nights but for more that 25% of the points it cost me for 7 nights! So neither was an option and now I am stuck with the wrong dates because of DRI's online calendar error! These are just two examples of DRI's unscrupulous behavior. I won't even go into the ridiculous increases in maintenance fees, increases in points needed to book and the limited number of United States Locations...... I am a completely dissatisfied customer and will NEVER book through Diamond Resorts again much less reccomend DRI to anyone!
