DMI Movers Delta Moving Incorporated change in ampunt due to a 400% increase and threat to unload my items/unauthorized packing of goods Simi Valley,
26th of May, 2012 by User988368
It was explained to both me and my fiance, on two different phone conversations with DMI representative Lee that my move would cost me $1100. Lee explained that she had a list of my items and boxes so the cost would be accurate. I moved to Georgia a week prior to my items being picked up in Scottsdale, Arizona. My cousin was present. The mover was scheduled to arrive in the morning but actually arrived between 5 and 6pm. He proceeded to build boxes around everything - including my vacuum and my bike, my dining chairs... this was never agreed to or even discussed. At 3:00 am Georgia time I received a call from the DMI driver telling me that the packing cost $700 and the new moving bill was $4200. He told me he needed $1700 right then or he could just unload my truck. He told me to just give him an address and I said the only one I have is in Georgia because my apartment keys had been turned in that night after he left and my cousin was gone. I was beside myself and I told him this news was shocking and that I expected the move to cost $1100. I had already paid a $100 deposit so I had budgeted another $1000 for the move. I told the driver I could not think like this at 3am - and I did not have $1700. I had $500 for him but he would not accept that. We ended the conversation on a terribly frustrating note and I did not know if my things would ever be seen again. I did not sleep all night and called the DMI office the next day (Easter Sunday) - I spoke with Jonathon. He went back and forth with me on the price like I was buying a used car. This haggling was ridiculous yet I had no choice since they had my things. Jonathon told me he would settle for $2500 and I told him that Lee should be in on our conversation. He told me that no one was above him at the office. I had to agree to the amount and hope to dispute this after my items arrived. The truck arrived 3 days late. I have so many broken and damaged items that I have filed a claim for that along with photos. I watched with my mouth wide open as someone else's mattress was thrown onto the sidewalk and bent in half so they could reach my things in the semi truck. My boxes arrived smashed and filled with broken (bubble wrapped) plates etc... The entire situation has been a fraudulent and misleading transaction. I paid for professional movers who promised to carefully move my items. The original driver told me the weight of my load was 6000 lbs yet the semi driver told me it was under 2000 lbs. I moved twice as much weight with Mayflower in 2010 for $2300. The number of boxes I had doubled because the driver boxed things as I mentioned like a vacuum and a dining chair that was mentioned on my large item list. I have this list that was provided to me from DMI with the $1000 price on it! So far I have paid $2600 for a move that was supposed to have cost $1100 and half of my things are broken.
