DSS Inc. WARNING: FRAUD alert Pilot Point, Texas
8th of Jan, 2011 by User235022
At first when I opened my door, I was bombarded by this salesman's speech. He started QUICKLY talking about himself trying to earn 'points' to earn a chance to go to Cancun, Mexico. He started making jokes about how if I sponsor him, he will be my personal butler. I was confused by all of his remarks and thinking to myself when will he get to the point. He started saying he was working towards becoming a real estate agent and asked me if I thought he was capable of it. I nodded to be nice and he gestured a high five.

He started showing me a brochure of all of the magazine subscriptions (with no prices listed) asking me what my interest were and that there is a magazine for most interests. He kept telling me that my neighbors bought 'this and that' from him. He quickly asked for my address and signature to sponsor him. He told me that a magazine subscription would be from .33 cents to $1.50. So I figured that a yearly subscription should be under $20, because I guess I did want to help him out. He quickly motioned for me to fill out my info.

As I was trying to read the receipt, he kept hurrying and rushing me as to where I needed to fill out my info. Like the idiot that I am, signed the receipt. I thought that I would get mailed a billing statement after I received my magazine. The salesman who went by the name of Anthony, told me 'no, ma'am, you pay right now.' So I got my checkbook and he totaled up the amount to be $58. I was surprised and said that it was out of my budget to be spending $58 on magazines. He then made it sound like I was being a cheap ass, saying that $58 was not a lot at all.

I then told him, I don't think I would be able to help him out anymore because the magazine I chose happened to be a 2 year subscription which he failed to inform me about. He then got pretty rude and told me 'well then our company will bill you in about a week for $200.' I was shocked and asked him to hand over the receipt so that I could get the company info. He told me NO, that this receipt needs to paid for and can't be handed out to people who have not paid. I started questioning him, asking for a number that I can call and he told me that he has no contact with management. He started talking about the billing again and said that because I had already signed to sponsor him, I would be billed.

At that point, I was confused, frustrated and felt obligated (for some reason) to pay up since I had already signed. I felt pressured. I kept insisting that he tell me more about their policy because I wasn't going to pay. I was getting irritated and mad. I even tried yanking the receipt out of his hands which at that point he had accused me of laying my hands on him. He made a big scene saying that he was going to call his supervisor consultant or what not and I was still really confused and angry..even a little scared.

Seeing how angry I was, he then offered me, in his terms what he normally wouldn't do, 'something that would get him in trouble if his company found out'. He told me that within 3 days, I was able to send in a written form to cancel my subscription. I would receive a check in the mail from the company with no additional charges.

I felt relieved at that moment that I wasn't obligated to any agreement terms and that there was a way out.

I gave him the check and he told me that if I cancel, I should do it the following day. I agreed and he gave me a 'bugoff' slip to post on my door so that any other solicitor would not come bother me.

Before he left, I asked so you work in this area correct? He said 'yes, ma'am, you thought a plane just brought me here and dropped me off?' (LITTLE DID I KNOW) (I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF THAT WERE THE CASE)

After this had happened I went online only to find that there were over 20 complaints on ripoffreport saying that Dss Inc is a scam.

I canceled my check, closed my account and vow to NEVER be as passive or gullible as I was that day this fraudulent organization approached me.

DO NOT let this happen to you, hopefully my experience as well as the other 20 or so innocent people will let you know that DSS INC is a scam.
