Dun and Bradstreet DandB not DnB somehow somebody got my information off of this site!! Internet

So OBVIOUSLY Dun and Bradstreet has two websites. Or so I thought. I went online to apply for a
D-U-N-S number for my business. I went to DandB.com not DnB.com. Long story short after I applied I recieved an email(after putting all the pieces together to this scam I went back and realized it was not a professional email. Looked like somebody just typed it up. But the way they explained themselves sounded convincing. They also put a D&B logo at the bottom of the page) I was new to all of this so I assumed it was official. So the email stated that I needed to call and "verify" my information. So I called and they told me I had to pay $300!! I asked if I can enter my information online and they said "We have to do it over the phone" So I went on the website(confused as to which one was which) and proceeded to chat with one of the "specialists". When I proceeded to chat with them, I explained to them that I thought I had been scam(I was reporting the scam to the scammer!). I asked was the D-U-N-S number totally free and they said NO! You have to pay $300! and they exited out of the chat! So FINALLY I talked to the REAL Dun and Bradstreet (DnB.com) and they were very confused as to how I almost got scammed! They were REALLY nice and patient with me as I asked 1,000 questions because I was VERY cautious. The D-U-N-S number is TOTALLY FREE!! DON'T GET SCAMMED! And even better I found out that I automatically get a number when companies start reporting my business credit activities. Here is how it works: Companies that you have an account with(all of mine are Net30) requests your information when they want to send in your reports/scores. Once they request you, Dun & Bradstreet investigates your company(calls you to verify information) and once everything is all clear you're ready to go! Usually it takes 30 business days to get a number, but vendors are able to report to D&B even if you DON'T HAVE A D-U-N-S NUMBER! So excited! I talked to the right people. Just nervous as to if my company's information has been compromised :(. So as far as I know...ONLY GO TO www.dnb.com. I really don't know if it was just ME but SOMEHOW these people(whoever they may be) got my information and tried to scam me! So stay far away from that site. If it IS a real D&B site tell me something new! As far as I'm concerned only deal with www.dnb.com NOT www.dandb.com.
