My husband frequently has to drive from Fort Collins to Colorado Springs, and if you're from Colorado you know that in rush hour this means a very long wait on I-25! So, he decided to go the "back way" and use the E-470 Toll Road. Good idea, right? WRONG! First, we started getting bills in the mail and so we just paid them right away. Total paid was $107.50, which was charged to our credit card. Then, a few months later we get a nasty letter from a collection attorney saying we owed $99.25 ($79.25 plus $20 late fee) for "overdue" tolls. I noticed the account numbers didn't match up, so I called Express Toll and talked to a customer service rep. She informed me that two accounts for the same vehicle were set up (by Express Toll, NOT by us), so if I paid the $99.25 she was call the old account paid in full and cancel it, and we could just use the new account from then on. (Now, remember, I already PAID $107.50... are you getting the picture yet?) Okay, so it gets worse... then, I noticed we got charged that nasty $107.50 TWICE on the new account! Yes, and our credit card was continuously charged over and over to cover it! (Like total idiots we signed up with their online pay system, so they had control over the credit card 100%). Several calls were made to the customer service reps, who informed us that it was a "computer glitch" and we would get a refund. Not only did we NEVER receive a refund, but our credit card was charged... again...and AGAIN... and AGAIN! Finally, we sent them a letter saying we wanted this mess straightened out, plus a complete accounting of what tolls were charged. You see, on the credit card charge invoices all they show is the charge...not the tolls...so WHAT are we paying for?? Here's the kicker, folks... they just sent us to COLLECTION... for a lousy $15.25... on the OLD ACCOUNT, which was CLOSED!! Okay, are you totally confused yet? If not, please let me know what I'm missing here! Needless to say, I am FED UP COMPLETELY with E-470. And yes, I am using capital letters cuz I am completely SHOUTING! O: My advice... take I-25, sit in that rush hour traffic, sip your latte, and just enjoy life. DON'T take the "back way" and get stuck in E-470's incredibly tangled web! Too many spiders are running that system.

Hello, I have experirenced the exact same problem. I have a transponder through Express Toll on one vehicle, on the other, they made a seperate account! The halarious thing is, THEY HAVE ALL MY BILLING INFORMATION!, oh wait, that's not halarious after reading the above comment. I received this notice of owing $154.25!!! The original amount was $9.25! Why was the first notice I received of this a week ago? I really don't understand what's going on with these people. You would THINK their system would attempt to match common names. Hmmm, 2 of the same names, 2 of the same addresses, why would they not combine these accounts? I even have paid on this secondary vehicle from the address that I live at now. In fact, and don't quote me on this, but I think I may have already paid this. I must go back and look at my records. Did they set up this alernative vehicle on paperless billing or something? SO even if you owe money they wouldn't send you a notice until it went to the attorney in Denver? This doesn't make any sense. I would like to hear from others with the samiliar problem.

I FIND THE TOLLS CHARGED ARE EXORBITANT EVEN WITH THEIR SO-CALLED 'DISCOUNT' FOR SIGNING UP WITH THEM TO EXTRACT MONEY FROM YOUR ACCOUNT(S) AND HAVE IT ON HAND TO PAY TOLLS YOU RUN UP. i HAVE AVOIDED THE TOLL ROADS AND WILL CONTINUE TO AVOID THEM UNTILL THEY BECOME A NORMAL PART OF OUR HIGHWAY SYSTEM. ITS INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THEY ARE NOW BILKING PEOPLE THROUGH THEIR BILLING SYSTEM. adpug2

I just received a toll violation for a transaction that occurred almost a year ago and this was while I actually had an account with these people. It is absolutely RIDICULOUS that they are charging me for THEIR mistake. I have PROOF showing that I was on the highway on the same date and minutes from the two tolls that I supposedly didn't pay. Also, they're slapping on a LATE FEE of $5.00 and a COLLECTION FEE of $15, had I not called them and mentioned that I had an account with them during the time these SUPPOSED violations happened they would have also charged me with TWO $25.00 CIVIL PENALTY charges. This company is out for the consumer's hard earned money! I will NEVER use this toll system again. I don't even live in Colorado anymore and I'm still receiving this CRAP from them! I sent them a complaint email too, it probably wont have any affect, but I couldn't believe how RUDE their customer service center is! They're absolute SNAKES!!

I have an issue this week. Here is an excerpt from the leter I sent to them:

"I noticed on my recent statement (#************) that my previous balance of $110.25 was carried over
to this statement, resulting in a later fee of $5.00 applied on 8/14/12. I knew this to be an error because
I had paid the $110.25 amount on 7/27/12 with check #314 and mailed this payment out on the same
day, well in advance of the 8/8/12 due date.

I called your Customer Service number this morning and I believe I spoke to guy named Jordan. I
explained to him that I had paid this well in advance and that I shouldn’t have a late fee applied. He told
me that ExpressToll had not received my check until 8/14/12 at that the late fee was valid. He did offer
to remove the late fee as a “one-time courtesy” though. I accepted this offer.

I noticed that this check #314 was processed in my account on 8/6/12. I also called my bank, USAA, and
had them confirm that this check was processed. USAA actually said that ExpressToll’s bank, US Bank
out of Portland, OR, had actually processed this check on 8/3/12. (Refer to copy of check with outlined
dates of processing from US Bank, below.)

So, how is it that ExpressToll can receive my check/payment, have their bank process it for payment five
days before the statement’s due date and still claim that they did not receive my payment in time and in
turn, charge me a late fee?

I find this very disturbing and wonder now…how many other people that use the E-470 toll road are
being charged with erroneous late fees because ExpressToll either has a major glitch in their accounting
software or are purposefully charging the false late fees for additional profit."

This reminds me of recent events that happened with some major credit card providers and a few
wireless telephone providers. If I recall right, they ended up paying millions back to their consumers.
