Expo Enterprises Tom Chavez BREACH OF CONTRACT, REFUSES TO PAY US A REFUND!!! Sacramento, California
2nd of Dec, 2010 by User353373
Our signed a contract
on September 13th, 2010 to have a booth space a health fair called, Total
Health Expo Sacramento 2010. This event is produced by Expo Enterprises, a
local event company.

The event was scheduled for November 6th and 7th, 2010. We
got a phone call October 18th, 2010 from Tom Chavez, the business owner of Expo
Enterprises and he said that due to lack of public interest and booth space
bookings, he has decided to move the event to March 2011 and change the
location to a different hotel and change the name of the event from "Total
Health Expo" to "Senior Health and Leisure Fair". This change
was a breach of our contract and we informed Tom that we would like to have a
refund of $700, the fee we paid for the booth space. We were also notified by
email of this change in the event.

We had already paid for this event in full
by October 7th, 2010, which were cashed
immediately by Tom. Ever since October 19th, 2010 when we were made aware of
this change, Tom has stopped returning our phone calls and emails when we have
requested our refund. We were able to get ahold
of him by phone on November 11th, 2010 and Tom agreed to pay us in full because
of the breach of contract on his part, but when we asked if he could pay in a
timely manner by November 30th, 2010, he gave us several excuses and never gave
us a clear response of when he would pay. Since then we never yet to receive any further response from Tom regarding the payment he agreed to pay.

In an email
from Tom dated October 19th, 2010, he told us that the event name was changed
and gave us a link to the new website, www.seniorhealthfair.com. On December
3rd, 2010 we went to this website and it proves that the name of the event and
location has been changed and that it is still being produced by Expo
Enterprises, but in the contact information on the website, we noticed that
Tom's email has changed from [email protected] to [email protected]. This seemed strange to us, so we
decided to try the old website for the original event which we were told is not going to happen anymore, which was
www.totalhealthexpo.net. We were very surprised to see that Expo Enterprises is
still trying to promote this same event in March 2011, just now under 2 different names
and on two different websites, Total Health Expo and Senior Health and Leisure
Fair!

We are in the process of filing reports with the BBB, which we just found out that Expo Enterprises has an "F" rating on their website. We are strongly encouraging business owners in the Sacramento area to not do business with any event produced by Expo Enterprises because they will change the event on you after you paid and then it becomes a nightmare to try to get your booth space fee back!!!

In response to the complaint, we would like to say that indeed the company was fully reimbursed some time ago. The person that we originally negotiated with was out of state, so we awaited his return figuring that he might choose to remain in the show. We changed dates because the venue that we had secured, Holiday Inn NE in Sacramento, had been bought by Crowne Plaza Hotels, and was being fully renovated. As of this date it is still not fully complete, and so we had to move to another date.

As to different websites, emails, etc., of course we have them because we produce different shows annually, all demanding their specific sites and email addresses. Expo Enterprises is a small, local company, doing business for over 30 years throughout the West Coast, now with thousands of satisfied customers. In the trade show business there will always be
complaints about matters that are out of our control, like the weather, the venue, or other competing events. We have had very few complaints in all of this time but have plenty of testimonials about the good quality of the shows.

As to the Better Business Bureau grade, we have refused to respond because it is not with them that the problem was, or comply with their pressure tactics to join (at a fee, mind you), and for that, it seems, you automatically get on their bad side. It is BBB itself that is a scam, and we recommend that the reader go to the extensive articles by Rip Off contributors, including the Rip Off Report’s own editor titled THE FOX GUARDING THE HEN HOUSE!

Here’s just one of the numerous comments on the Rip Off Report site: “After I found out how the BBB does business, I was shocked. I do not believe the public realizes the way the BBB runs. They receive their revenue from the clients they
represent. They do not check on the information that these clients give to them.”
