Extreme Fitness Collections, Cancelling membership, Scam, toronto, Ontario
24th of May, 2011 by User987979
I have had an extreme fitness membership from jun 2010 to jun 2011. Initially I signed up for a 2 month trial. The representative Rayne Winters advised me that I could cancel whenever I wanted. There would be no nonsense cancellation fees or other hoops to jump. She asked me for my credit card information because they had to have me on the record for their medical insurance. Which I completely bought even though looking back it sounds pretty ridiculous. I confirmed with Rayne this was only a trial period and I did not want to sign any contracts. However, she advised me that even though this I have a trial period I do need to sign a contract to have me as a trial member on the record. In any case, during the 2 month period I contacted Rayne and advised her I would like to cancel my free trial. She then advised me that the only way to cancel was if I was moving away which required a plane ticket and proof of change of address. This was too much of a headache so I decided to keep the membership for the year which I obviously did not get a lot of use out of. Furthermore, fast forward to may 2011... I went into the Richmond location and advised them I would like to cancel my membership as of renewal jun 2011. The general manager Timothy Nealson did not appear to know what the cancellation procedure was and advised me that he would have it taken care of. This in itself was infuriating. I left them with a copy of the cancellation request and my membership agreement. After some further research and discussion with another friend who was in a similar situation, I found out that they do not honor personal cancellation requests. You have to go in and ask them for a cancellation confirmation or change form request and have them sign it. Furthermore, I alerted my credit card company and had them issue me a new credit card. However, after further research it seems that Extreme continuously bills you even after the change request form and will eventually send collection agencies against you. What a sham of a company. People who work there couldn't seem more incompetent but simultaneously clever because they're scamming honest people.
