Class was suppose to start at 6pm.... there were times it would not start until 6:30pm or even 6:45pm. And it wouldn't be ligitament reason like they were coming from work. It would be because they were mingling with other students or chit chatting with other instructors. We started A&P Sept 7, 2010. Before starting A&P we were told in E.M.T. that we would have a syllabus. Needless
to say as of the day I dropped night class (February 7, 2011) we never got a syllabus. We were told on several occasions (even after we asked multiple times) that we would get one. Yes we would get one but then told to throw it away because it was not useable. They even tried to get us to follow the day class which was impossible (day class has 9 1/2 hrs. and we had 4hrs.) We were told we had so many hours to finish A&P... at points we told the instructors that we were moving too fast that we were going to finish early and moving that fast was unfair to us. They would tell us we were wrong or ignore us. In the end we finished early and had nothing to do for 2 weeks. Not to mention we were the only class that had to do an oral report for A&P. The day class that was finishing after us fought it (just like we did) and they didn't have to do it, but we did. When we finally did get to the paramedic book 1 we began doing labs. We only did maybe a handful of labs the 3-4 months we actually began the paramedic books. We were also told we had to redo our E.M.T. labs, which is fine, but no one wanted to do the obstetrics lab (delivering a baby). Even when we were in E.M.T. no one wanted to do it. It was basically a discussion. It wasn't hands on. One of our instructors would play games during class. Whether it be on the laptop or phone. It got to the point where this instructor wouldn't even lecture until 9pm and class let out at 10pm. This was unfair to us as a class because the particular chapter he began doing this in was a very important chapter (Respiratory and Cardiac). He acted like he had better things to do. During Ch 2 (cardiac this instructor would also fly by several pages saying we would learn that later or Eugene could teach us that. He did this for all of Ch 2. Therefore we had to rely on Eugene to teach us this Ch not only on lab days but also on lecture days that should have been for other Ch's. Don't get me wrong he is an awesome teacher.... when he teaches.... but after they took his key to lock up the school he even said he wasn't going to care anymore. And trust me it showed. Towards the end of my night paramedic class is got so bad that I decided to go to days. For instance we had an exam night and we had been told that Ch's 1 & 2 out of Book 3 was all on one test. Well when we went to take it, it was two completely different tests. Therefore we had two totally different exams to take. Not to mention when we took Ch1 it was fairly difficult but Ch 2 I had no clue about. We were not lectured properly for us to be able to pass these exams. Once I did go to day class, and I went to my first day... I noticed just how far behind I was. Their lectures were so much better than what we had gotten in the night class. Because of that I decided to go one whole class behind that class to try to start at Book 3 all over again. I could not believe what they had covered. One of the things I can tell you that I know they covered more than the night class was the "T" wave on the EKG strip. We were told all about the "P" wave and the "QRS" but when it came to the "T" wave there was hardly anything mentioned about it. When I got to day class I found out you really need to know this because that will help you detect a hear t attack. This was totally unfair to the night class. There was a student holiday on January 17, 2011. We did not find out that we had no school until the day before and we found out on facebook. Shouldn't we have been told that Thursday before at the very least? When we got back from Winter Holidays we were wondering why we did have an instructor on Thursdays anymore so we asked why and they told us that we were supposed to be told before the holidays that we were starting clinical in January. Then to top it all off the instructor in charge of clinical said he could only get 36 hours of clinical hours for us in February, none in January and we definitely couldn't get any in March. We are in a night class for a reason. Some of my classmates were working during the day and couldn't take off for clinical. They should be working with us on this. Like I said we are in night class for a reason. Of all this I would like to say there were two instructors I would like to mention that did an awesome job trying to help us and try to get us on tract as far as lecturing. They tried everything possible to help instruct the class.... but we did not have them enough when we had lectures... Greg and especially Eugene were awesome when it came to lectures. We had Greg once and a while in general. Eugene we had more on lab night than we did lecture night. There was 2 weeks that Eugene was trying to get us lectured because the instructor I mentioned above (paragraph 6) didn't really lecture on the chapter. Eugene had to re-lecture for us to somewhat understand it. But he couldn't do everything in 4 hrs. I am going to try to go to this other day class in hopes that everything will be ok as far as me learning. And I also hope that me writing this letter doesn't affect how the instructors treat me. I am only speaking the truth and I believe there are a lot of things that need to change. Clinicals on class (weekends) Robert didn't even know that there was a night class day class was suppose to do 4hrs lecture 4 hrs lab and they dont they are lectured a lot longer. didn't know about graduating date.
Once I went o P15... the class I actually wanted to be in... but they insisted that I go into 14... I stayed half a day in 14.... and basically told them I go into 15 or I will quit. SO they agreed. Being in that class let me see just how much better they are taught.... but there was a lot of stuff we as a night class did not cover... including clinicals. The above mentioned instructor that would play games in class.... we had him in class in p15... and while trying to take an exam .... he once again was playing his game and one of the students asked him to mute it because it was distracting.... Obviously he was never talked to about this. Once I made the decision that I was not going to go back.... Diana called me to ask me what was going on.... and once again she acts like she didn't know anything... not to mention I had to repeat myself to her in the conversation. I got tired of it and hung up on her. She doesn't want to admit that the EMS program is a joke. There is only a handful who care.... and I still say it is Greg & Eugene. The last thing I want to mention is that clinical time was coming up in P15 and I was told by Ben that I had to do all my hours by May 20th (this was told to be on March 7, 2011).... I only have 33hrs... that would mean I would have to go Thur. & Fri for 12 hours each every week for 9 weeks then once a week for 2 weeks after that. This was not fair to me since I asked if I could do clinicals the month I was not going to school because I was waiting on the prior class to catch up to where I was. After arguing with Ben over the weekend he finally says if I want the 33 hrs to count I would have to do it that way.... the 20th of May is when night times hours were done.... but I could drop my hours and start all over and begin with
the class I was in. Why did I have to argue with him to get this done? I have been talking to a former classmate who is also having problems with this... I was forced to go to day class and they wanted to screw me over... they even had me sign a paper saying that was my first of second time returning to class... and I had to follow the rules... me being in day class was because
I was forced into it.... which Diana denie's.... but of course anything to save her butt.... But I still have my books that are unused that I would like my money back on.... and the rest of paramedic I owe to be taken away... they are not fair and not willing to listen to the problems I had at the school and then denies everything I have said was wrong...I would also like to mention that the school tells people that the admission fee is $100 but they only make you pay $50 and put the other $50 onto your tuition. And they are not suppose to be doing this... they had a secret shopper call in and someone told them this and the person from the school who was told by the school to say this got fired for doing that.
