Garden State Readers Scam!!! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY Internet
2nd of May, 2011 by User802508
This company is a SCAM. I received a call at work asking to participate in a survey to which I did. When the survey was over I was told as a thank you they would send me a gift and I could get magazine subscriptions. I have yet to receive said gift (Knives) and before I received a magazine I asked to cancel as I was no longer interested in receiving their services. I was told I could not cancel, to which I replied I will then just inform my bank to not process any of your charges. The customer service rep. became ver defensive and threatened me with legal collection. I have contact the BBB, FTC, and Attorney Generals office. This company is a joke and their product is a scam. They are also very deceptive about their pricing and charging schedule. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY!!!

They just called me at work too and the first person I spoke with said the same thing...I did a short survey about commercials...for a "Thank You" I could choose a Walmart or a Target Gift Card...and then of course I could choose "free" magazines (to which I'd have to pay a small shipping charge). I asked her several times if I was obligated to anything and she said "No, you will get a packet in the mail in about a week and you can decide from there but my supervisor will call you back in a short while and go over the rest of the billing procedure with you." When her supervisor called me back she immediately began to tell me that it would be $19 a month for the first 20 months of the 60 and that she needed banking information or a credit card #. I asked her if I was obligated and she said "Well yes, I need your information". I told her that when I spoke to her representative that I made sure to tell her I didn't want to be obligated to anything and she assured me that I was not. She stuttered "I don't know why she said that", so I told her I didn't want to be a part of it and to cancel me out of her system. If I begin to get billed from them I'm going to be p'd off! I've kept all of the information such as their names and the #'s they called me from in case I need the information.

Same thing happened to me. I figured I'd just cancel after a few weeks... a few weeks went by, and I was told I can't cancel. Then I check my statements, and it turned out they were charging me DOUBLE what they said they would. And of course, I never got the gift card. It's been months now, by the way.

When they told me I can't cancel, I just changed my credit card number and now they're calling me at work every day and at home, too.

I've gone to the BBB... I hope they can help.

I got a call from them today at work. It sounded like a scam to me, but I wasn't sure. I gave out my cell and my PO Box not my home address just in case. I picked out the 6 free magazines and told her I wanted the Target gift card. The woman I spoke to said the same thing about the $1.99 per week or $8.60 per month. I told her I wanted to be billed. She said that wouldn't be a problem. She told me that her supervisor would call me back to make sure she had taken my information down correctly. When her supervisor called back about 10 minutes later she tried to get me to pay $17.20 in advance with my credit card or checking account number. Once she said that I knew it was a SCAM. I told her that they could bill me after I received the magazines, but not before. She said that they would send the first magazines via FED EX then I could pay the delivery guy the $17.20 (I don't know if FED EX even does this). I told her that I thought their offer was a SCAM. She told me that they had been in business for 25 years and I could check with the Better Business Bureau. I told her never mind, that I wasn't interested. Both women were very smooth. I guess you have to be when you're trying to SCAM people. As the saying goes - If it sounds to good to be true it probably is.
