This is a fair warning to stay away from GCU. This school is a nightmare! Let me tell you my story. I started in March of 2009. Of course they were more than eager to get me started, filing out financial aid and whatever else my needs are. Everything was well the first year. Well in 2010 the school decided to change curriculums and guess what. Two of the classes that I took were no longer required for the degree I was working for. Therefore, I took these classes for no reason at all. However, GCU was not willing to pay me back for these classes. Well later on in 2010, they started charging a higher fees for the school. In June of 2010 things began spirling down hill even more. The financial aid was held up for 30 days or more. I had to place a complaint with the school in order to get my financial aid released. Finally things came to an end with this horrible school or I thought. Well in January of 2011 they did an audit of my account and apparently GCU made a mistake and told me they forgot to add the military scholarship on my account. Well this became a problem because the school took more money from the federal government than they were supposed too. They had to send $5000 back to the federal government. Now they are out of this money and guess who they want to pay them back for the mistake that they made? Yep you guessed it ME! They admitted it was their mistake, however, they want me to pay it back. They aren't even releasing my transcripts or degree until I pay it back. How fair is this, that they made the mistake, however, they still want to be paid back for the mistake by the student. In summary this school is a joke. The class work was challenging with some professors and others my 4 year old daughter could pass. I seen in the classroom some students couldn't write the first sentence, but they continue passing. I warn everyone to stay away from this school. Don't be fooled by their salesmen "enrollment counselors" the school is not christian based and moreover it is a for profit school. Do some research before enrolling. I have found other schools that teach the same degree that are real schools, but once GCU has you, then its hard to start over after a year.
