InterMountain Health Care (IHC) IHC Horrible Unethical Billing Practices Salt Lake City, Utah

I have been a patient of IHC physicians for the last 8 years. IHC has the WORST billing department I have ever dealt with. They are incompetent and very very rude.
I have been waiting since Feb. of 2009 for a refund of $80.64 that was billed to me in error. I have written two letters and no response. I have called 3 times and Nicole at the central lab is so snotty that I spoke to her supervisor and complained. Nothing was done to resolve this over payment.
I was in a car accident in April and IHC was impossible to deal with the coordination with my auto insurance. I even physically went into McKay-Dee to discuss my bill. I ended up working with customer relations rep as the billing staff was so snotty. It has finally been resolved. Seriously, having to go in physically to discuss your bill? Did I mention they kept me waiting 45 minutes before getting service?
Every time I or a family member goes to the MD I have to watch my EOBs and they never match what IHC has billed. NEVER! This last bill my daughter went in for a sports physical, the MD talked to her about her acne, then charged for a separate office call. They then billed for an additional $92.32.
I could rant on an on...for what they have done with billing with my elderly mother is horrid, simply horrid.
I have made the decision that I am no longer going to go to any physician associated with IHC. The physicians are fine, it is the billing staff that are horrid to deal with.

I have never seen such an incompetent billing department as the one at Intermountain Healthcare. It is so poor that I have begun to assume it is actually intentional theft since it is difficult to believe a big company like that could possibly be so inept. I have only used their medical services four or five times but I have had three billing disputes. On one dispute they billed the wrong insurance company and demanded payment from me when the incorrect company refused payment. It took 4 months and 5 or 6 visits to the billing department along with multiple phone calls to finally get it straight. They had the correct information but refused to act on it, and even refused to just call the correct insurance company.

The second issue occurred when they billed me $700 for a bill incurred by someone else by the same name. They refused to investigate and just rudely asked me to confirm my name and birth date. When I did they said "well that's what we have on record so the bill is yours". This went on for weeks until I finally convinced someone to dig a little deeper. With no explanation or apology they told me they would show that I did not owe the bill. To this day they have never admitted it was not mine. I think they were unable to collect from the actual patient and thought they could intimidate me out of the money.

The third issue was only for $94.00 that was incurred when my regular doctor sent them the results of a test for their records. No services were performed and none were requested but they billed me $94.00 for "review of the test results". They never sent me or my doctor any report of such a review and I doubt it ever happened. They sent the bill five months after the supposed service. I had changed insurance companies and they billed the old one. When they couldn't get payment they demanded I pay. I called and asked what the service was for and why they waited five months to bill me. No explanation, just pay. Having dealt with these idiots before I figured it wasn't worth the effort and sent a check. Now they are continuing to demand immediate payment and are sending me to collections for a bill I never should have received but paid anyway.

This company is nothing more than a front to extort money from people.
