I applied for a management position from a craigslist advertisement then I received a reply asking me for an interview. I then sent an e-mail asking management for confirmation about the $15.00 pay and asked was this a commission only job. I received this reply from management> B,
Our employees are paid base pay plus commission. If this is something you are looking for, we would like to meet you!

S. S. Once I got proof from them that this was not commission only I agreed to an interview. I arrived 15 min early as instructed, filled out the needed application, then was given an attitude test which the owner of the company told us not to worry about it and there decision would not be based on it. All they asked was to answer the questions honestly and not leave any blank answers. After I filled out the application and completed the 4 page test of A or B answers, they said please write your name on the board and we will call you in order of the names on the board. I was the first out of approx. 20 applicants that was finished because approx. 8 people walked out before the interview process started for various reasons. I even heard the lady next to me whisper, what a scam before she left. After I wrote my name on the board, Christy said don't sit down and follow me to the couch, my office is a mess and it's not that comfy. So we did our interview about 15 feet from everyone else on a couch next to the front door. To clarify the interview was not done privately, but out in the open. Christy again apologized for not doing a good job at presenting the equipment because she was the Co-owner of the company and usually doesn't do presentations. She began to ask me several questions and when I asked about the pay, she told me how it went down, which I will discuss in more detail if needed. I told her that I was confused because Shannon (Owner of the company) told me via e-mail that everyone receives a base pay plus commission and she said, I am not sure what he is talking about. Furthermore, I asked about benefits and vacations and she replied they didn't have or offered any, which again confused me because it stated clearly in the ad that they offered competitive benefits. She informed me that they do not offer paid vacations per say, but they do have a travel package/group that they belong to and will take us on vacation. When I asked what about private vacations, she replied they don't offer any type of paid vacations or paid time off. I asked about medical, dental and eye insurance and she stated no they don't offer those either, so I asked what happens if I am on the job, driving to an appointment and get into an accident, she said I hope you have good insurance. When I asked what was green about the company which was also in the ad, she said the motor was considered green. The motor used in the unit runs at 2500 rpm and is very loud. I then asked how much this unit cost and she said $ 2300 and some change. I asked about the warranty and she replied 8 yrs. , but stated the unit will last a minimum of 70-80 years and there was nothing to worry about. I then asked a few more questions about this job worked because she said there was zero cold calls, no door knocks, no door to door or MLM sales. She claimed the unit which is made by Rainbow, will suck out all the dangerous dust particles out of the air, she spent a good amount of time showing us how the unit covers up the smell in the air by dumping air fresheners into the unit. The amount of the 4pack of chemicals was $25.00 for very tiny bottles. When asked does the unit eliminate or cover up the smells, she stated it would without a doubt eliminate all smells and odors and 1 unit would do any sized house. When she asked me when I could start, I stated any day and she said can you come to our orientation this Tuesday night, I stated no because of college obligations. She said we will have to work around my schedule then. She then stated it was a pleasure meeting me and looked forward working with me and smiled, which basically told me she liked me. She did ask what my school schedule was and when I told her it was all night classes, she kind of changed her mood and wasn't smiling anymore. I told her my schedule changes and some semesters, I would only be in class 1 night a week, this was just a full load ( 4 nights per week). She told me to please call her at the prescribed time and thanks for coming down for the interview. I called when I got home and was told that I was no longer being considered because I failed the attitude test, I was confused especially since she said they would work with any of our shortfalls. She said that they just couldn't use me for any of the 23 offered positions and nobody was hired as of yet. Anyway to summarize, I felt this company was extremely dishonest via there advertisement and was discriminated against my learning disabilities which resulted in me failing the attitude test. I did notice that out of everyone else that stayed behind, I was clearly the oldest in the room, especially since the others that left were around my age. Please feel free to contact me if needed. |
