Kevin came over to look at the problemfan and then proceeded to tell my father that he needed a ladder because he couldn't reach. My father offered him a step stool, but he insisted he needed something taller. My father went to his basement to get his ladder, took some time doing so, came back up and Kevin looked at the fan and then left.

All was well and good until my father then noticed that a lamp, whichI had given tomy fathersome time eariler in order for him to try to fix for meand that had been sitting on my father's table near where the handyman had been "fixing" the fan, was now gone. Apparently in the time it took my elderly father to go to the basement, find his ladder and come back up, Kevin had takenmy lamp.

When my father called Kevin to ask him if he had seen this lamp when he was at my father's house, Kevin quickly hung up on my father.The lamp isn't worth much (perhaps he thought it an antique); it only has sentimental value. I don't expect I'll ever get it back.

We went to the police, but they said they could do next to nothing as my father didn't actually witness Kevin steal the lamp (we even offered his name and phone number--not having an address as my father always paid in cash and never got receipts--but the police would not take it). I'm now wondering if other things in my parent's house, that which my elderly parents have not noticed, have been stolen during thetimes this man has been there.
