Lens Crafters Lies to customers to scam more money out of them San Diego, California
27th of Aug, 2011 by User790129
My girlfriend recently went to Lens Crafters for a routine eye exam and to pick up a new pair of glasses. After finding a pair of frames from Carolee that she really liked she went in for her exam. Last year she was convinced that she needed to get an optimax, which I personally think is only really necessary for those above the age of 60, but that is another story. (on a side note I witnessed one of the reps trying to convince a mother to get her son to take the more expensive exam) After getting her exam (this time just a standard vision test) she showed the salesperson the Carolee frames she wanted and thus began the scamming. Her sales rep, Fatima, was not pleased with her decision because the frames were obviously too cheap (price wise), she made up an excuse that my girlfriends lenses would be too thick for those particular frames and started suggesting some more expensive frames. I asked her why the Carolee frames were not a good choice and she said because the thicker lens would fall out and that "there were many accidents with those type of frames". She went on to say that the wire that holds them in place would not be secure. I couldn't see how a thin wire could support thinner frames better than thicker frames, when thicker frames had more surface area. She couldn't answer the question and merely said "trust me please". I was annoyed and just let it go though I could totally sense a scam in the works. After selecting another (more expensive) frame my girlfriend sat down to get the paperwork squared away. While they were chatting I found another frame from Carolee similar to the one my girlfriend wanted and brought it over to them, the sales rep then blurted out quickly "those are an old style". Not exactly sure what that was supposed to mean, but since my girlfriend pointed out that she didn't like the fake diamonds on the side I agreed and left the two to wrap up. I went outside but had a sneaky suspicion that she was going to continue trying to scam more money out of the transaction and I was right. When my girlfriend met me outside she explained that she would have to pay an extra $100+ for her glasses when I asked why she said because the salesrep told her that her lens would be too thick for the frames so she would need to get a thinner version of the lens. So hold on a sec, if that was the case why didn't she suggest that in the first place? The first frame from Carolee was apparently not a good choice because they wouldn't support the lens so she suggested more expensive frames, then those frames as well were not sufficient enough to support the thicker lens?? Why then couldn't she get the thinner lens with the original frames?? Of course the answer is obvious, the sales reps get commission so their interest is not in what the best solution would be for the customer but what would earn them a bigger commission. When a company causes people to turn on one in such a manner and scam innocent people then such a company should not exist.
