Received bill for 10-year old traffic-ticket that had been paid. Municipalities are going bankrupt and these bill-collectors are ripping-off the government (by promising to collect debts, including citations that have long-ago been satisfied, and collecting fees but not paying all the fees and fines collected to the government / municipality.) And these bill-collectors are ripping of consumers through intimidating and threatening communications to scare people into paying tickets that a) they were never issued, b) were issued and paid the ticket, c) were never given their right to a speedy-trial, d) consumer was one of the 1.1 million personal bankruptcies filed every year, e) consumer never received ticket-issued , or f) the consumer paid the ticket many years ago and know they are trying to collect the same ticket again. These bill-collectors are usually sneaky and corrupt so be make sure you contact your congressman and let them know that congress works for you and congress must investigate these abuses of consumers. Also, make sure you do not enter into any agreement or pay any money to these bill-collectors, unless the claim is valid, and protect your rights under your state-consumer-protection-laws. Remember, most bill-collectors that try to collect old tickets for municipalities are salespeople who get paid a percentage of what they collect -- these typs of commission arrangements are illegal in some state (for the collection of municipal, city, government, fed, or state debt,) in which case these bill-collectors are breaking criminal-laws. Call your congressman and request a congressional-investigation to stop the harrassment and to stop the abuse of consumer-protection laws!
