As noted by many others, a young student stopped by and was selling magazines for a school trip. Her Dad was a Marine (I was the perfect target as I have a Marine flag outside) and I could send magazines to the "troops". Very very personable and believeable. After she left, my daughter looked up the company and saw it was a scam. I went and found the girl along with another person sitting on the corner at the entrance of my subdivision waiting for a ride. (Guess she hasn't come across a Marine Mom before lol) I told her I wanted my check back that it, I looked it up and it was scam. She said it wasnt and her Dad was a Marine. I told her to thank him for his service but I wanted my check back and I would donate my money to the troops elsewhere. She gave it to me so I was lucky. She mentioned to me of another neighbor, the one that had the Marine Flag in the window helped her out as well. What a way to make money to prey on military families!
