I currently work for Massage Envy and I have worked for other companies and can't believe that they dont give 15 minute breaks to thier employees in between the massages. I feel like our job is so labor intensive that there should be a certain law against this..this feels so wrong. So if I go in there for a 6 hour shift and have 5 massages schedualed..I have to do those 5 massages in a row and have no break in between. I'm sorry but do you know how hard it is to even give a massage in the first place and further more give 5 of them in a row..its crazy. And how would you like to be theperson that comes in for that5th massage?? It would suck! But in these conditions, massage therapists cant givegood massages. Its not about thehealth of the massage therapists and their clients, its about the MONEY!!!I use to work as an independent contractor for5 years before working here and I would charge about $70-$100 for my massages and profit almost all of that and to come here and they work you like a dog I feel, it feels so inhumane. I use to maybe do 5 massages on my busiest days and I did it just so I could make the money, but here its not even worth it, they dont evenpay you enough. They pay you $17 an hour at best, but charge $60 for a massage..so that means they profit $40..but wait they dont do any of the work!!!! And you dont get paid at all for your down time. So if you come in and you have a 8 hour shift and no massages...YOU STILL HAVE TO STAY FOR THAT WHOLE SHIFT!!! R u kidding me??? They wont even pay you minimum wage for your time or put you on-call or something. Ive worked for smaller companies in the past who do put you on call and schedual you 15 minute breaks in between massages and I enjoyed my work so much more because I felt like they actually cared about me and I felt like I had more energy to give those massages. I feel like there needs to be a law for massage therapists over this stuff..because this is in-humane and should be illegal, seriousley. Someone needs to take a stand.

| I work at Massage Envy. The massage therapist are worked like slaves and unappreciated. I recently had a situation where I was sick and feeling light headed. I tried to call off but the manager threatened to suspend me or take away a complete shift every week since this would have been my third unexcused absence in a year. So I went in feeling miserable. Passing on negative energy to innocent clients. Sorry. I almost passed out during my fourth massage (in a row with no break). I was shaking and could hardly hold my head up. I notified the manager I was feeling sick, and she even seen me shaking and said nothing. So I suggested that I see if I could get someone else to take my next client since I had no energy to do it. No other therapist was available but as bad as I felt, I had to leave early and I didn't return for they day. Because they had to move the client's appointment down a half hour, they compensated her with proheat. They took $12 out of my check for it, as if the few squirts that come out of the bottle is anything more than a few dollars. Not to mention, I'm losing money by not taking the next couple of clients. And did I mention I was covering somebody else's shift that day? I usually have Saturdays off but I decided to work a birthday boy's shift for him. That meant I worked 6 days in a row. So not only did I get money taken out of my check, I received an unexcused absence on a day I'm not suppose to be there and I won't be receiving my free monthly massage next month. Which is irritating because as much as I work, I need one to recoperate from the stress I receive from this job. As a therapist, I wouldn't recommend this place to clients. They create a horrible energy within the place. No one wants a massage from a miserable massage therapist. |
