Meineke Car Care
Meineke Car Care Scott (manager) Oil change turns into them breaking our Tahoe, promising to pay for repairs and they are refusing to do so. Phoenix,
17th of Dec, 2010 by User776025
I took our Tahoe into a corporate owned Meineke Car Care Center, for an oil change and possibly a transmission flush as it was due for one. The mechanic showed me where the back differential was leaking a little and it did look like it was an old leak. I told them to flush the transmission and put the kit they suggested in order to fix the leak. Kit has a new gasket to stop the leak.

While waiting to have this done, unbeknownst to us at that time, an inexperienced mechanic who was helping the other mechanic pulled on the shift cable and broke it. But instead of telling me that, they lied and told me that the kit they received from the parts place was missing a piece and that they were closed, so they would have to keep the car overnight. Funny thing though, it was only 6:40 pm and most of the Checker Autos or Autozones (one was across the street) are open until 9pm.

I believed them, so as it turns out, the mechanic that broke the shift cable offered to give me a ride home. He told me he had just started working there and that he was a diesel mechanic. Later they said they fired him, but later told us when we saw him there, that they really didn't fire him afterall. It was probably told to us make us feel better that the guy who did the major screw up was gone.

The next day, the manager, Scott told me what had happened and that they would pay for the new shift cable and install it for free, of course, since they broke it.

However, because these guys only make $11.00 average per hour, they did not know that they should not disconnect the battery before they got under the dash to reconnect the shift cable. Because they did not know this, when I drove it home 2 days after taking it there, I noticed that hot air was coming out of the right side vents and cool air was coming out of the two driver side vents even though I had it turned on for cool air and not heat on an August day in Phoenix, AZ.

The next day I took it back to them and that's when they disconnected the battery to try to get the shift cable back on and also to fix the new problem with the AC. The AC was working fine when we brought the Tahoe in, so we know it was them messing under the dash that screwed it up. After two and a half weeks of our Tahoe being in their shop, we took it to our regular mechanic and he knew what happened but did not have the special GM tool to fix it.

Martin Green at Meineke Customer Service was handling this problem and I have two voice mails with him stating that their mechanics, did indeed screw up the car and that after talking to his boss, it was agreed that we could take the car to a Chevy dealer, have it fixed, pay for it and they would reimburse us the money after faxing the invoice showing paid in full.

I faxed everything they wanted and did not receive any response whatsoever. After 6 weeks, I called back and found out that Martin Greene left the company. He may have been fired for telling me that they would reimburse me.

I then found out that a Mr. Bruce Clark took Mr. Greene's place and I pleaded my case to him. He asked for a tape of the two voice mails and I sent it to him. I also re-faxed the same paperwork Mr. Greene had requested. I heard absolutely nothing from him or anybody else at the company.

The worse part is that while we were waiting to pick up our Tahoe the first time, a woman walked in and said they screwed her over good and to not trust them. Too late now! Later, when picking up the Tahoe the final time to take it to the dealer to get fixed, another couple in the Meineke parking lot told me theyalso gotripped off for over $800.00

Because they refused to even talk with us, we started picketing their place of business which happens to have a lot of traffic going past all day long. While we were picketing, other drivers that were stopped for traffice told us their stories of how this same Meineke place had ripped them off in the past. Many drivers are giving us the thumbs up and honking their horns in agreement with what ourpicket signs say.

We only wished there was a scam report done on this particularMeineke Car Care location aswe later checked a few on this websiteAFTER taking our Tahoe there to get the oil change.

Three and a half weeks later, the car is fixed by the Chevy dealer and we're still out the $594.70 that it cost for the mess the Meineke mechanics made. Meineke cannot be trusted as this is a corporate owned store. Talk about lousy customer service. We can only surmised that after they fired Martin Greene, they chose to ignore us and think that we would just go away.

After hearing about the other people who were ripped off by these same people at this particular Meineke, we needed to do something to get their attention. We'll continue to picket every chance we get.
