My problem is that I was referred to a local auto shop/used dealer ship because while driving to work I had a scare that I thought could result in my engine locking up completely. However I was close to a friend of mines home so i gave her a call after she'd shared with me a few times who she's had fix on her a van before so before i could reach my dad, and panicking all at once, i decided to take a chance to stop by to see if they could tell me if anything serious was occuring underneath my hood that was too serious for me to make it home. Once i arrive to meet the mechanic I get one of the owners that i was told about, however he didnt speak much English but i was desperate so i tried my best to understand. At that point he had another guy test drive my car who didnt speak english at all while i tried to explain to each of them the problem i was having with my car. After sitting there waiting on someone to tell me something for over a couple hrs, the owner finally tells me that him & the guy there actually arent the mechanics who actually know anything about cars so there's not much he could tell me, then he says that his brother (whom I take is part owner) is the guy who actually knows about cars. Well at a time like this, im expecting more than just someone who "knows about cars", I thought this was an legitimate shop for my own sake. Needless to say, that I was a female who showed up alone and also a single struggling parent, so i rely on my car to get me from school to work and back home to my daughter everyday! But what these guys did tell me is that i had no choice but to leave my car there because the tires were in terrible condition. Even tho i drove my car there, not to mention, tires & brakes had nothing to do with the reason i had an emergency stop there. I thought i had an engine leak, come to find out, after stressing the fact that im aware of my current tire problems, but thats wasnt the reason i brung my car to them. So 2 days later, though a call he's tells me that the electricity is off and thats the reason their not able to look into the problem i'm worried about. Crazy!! Because had i known that I wouldve called a tow truck to get to a mechanic my father would perfer me to go to. That day he basically told me i cnt take my car home and to catch a ride home, even though the person who referred me to him told me they'd give me a back up car to use while they worked on my car, I was never offered one, in result to that i missed days at school and work and was terminated for it. Then the 2 days later that he called and informed me about their electricity problem that they'd already had before they took my car he also gave me a 3 different totals, the 1st being $360, he called back with a new total of $568 saying this included my racket pinion, brake pads and front tire rod (all reasons he'd stressed i had no choice but to get fixed asap, though him) but all reasons i had NOT wanted them to look into, i was already aware of those problems and already had a number of mechanics that i was aware of to do the labor for those jobs, to make matters worse that had NOTHING to do with an oil leak and he'd said so himself so he'd said that for that reason and the fact he did business with the person who referred me that he would give me a better price due to my current situation, although that never happened because he actually called again upset that my father was curious as to what was going on and gave him a call to ask about the problems of my car, that he wouldnt share with my father. After that he called me back with a new price of $680.00! I definitely had already told him that i couldnt afford the last price so i'd have someone else do the job for me, then he became aggitated telling me that he'd already started the process, however i never agreed to him starting anything, especially not things i could have someone else to at another time and better price. So at that point i was pressured into paying a bill i couldnt afford because i felt i had no other choice! I told him i'd have to make some kind of payment arrangements then he tried pressuring me into asking my father since he called to inquire on my car, but my father doesnt have the funds to help me either. Then he tried suggesting that i ask the friend who referred me to him, he also went as far as saying that he'd talked to that friend and that she'd agreed to help pay for it. Not True! So today, a week later i've came up with half the money to take him and he doesnt accept it, he starts threatening and yelling at me telling me that he could take my car and it would be his, no title or permission, he yells at me telling me that my car is a peice of crap so he would just give it to the auction if i dnt pay in full by tomorrow and to add to that he's going to start charging me storage fee or $25.00 a day for a job i told him i couldnt afford from the beginning. He said that some guy is waiting for the racket pinion even though he told me the job was done, then when i ask what he means, he gives me some crazy answer saying he's gonna give my old peice to the guy he bought the new peice from, not me, he also gave me a different price than what he'd said he purchased it for earlier on. If he adds the storage fee a day there may be no way that i can afford to get my car back but i'm sure he's aware of that. So after trying to ask him a few more questions about my car, he tells me that "My questions confuse him" and thats why he cant tell me the truth about what's going on and hung up on me! Now besides being able to afford the different prices he's throwing at me, I'm worried if he can keep my car after making it unaffordable for me to get back. Do I just give this man what he asks for after this kind of service and call it a day plus what he keeps adding to the price? Do I have any rights against this? What can I do? I dnt mind spending hard earned money to the next hard working citizen but why do i feel like another female statistic or maybe another victim of his?
