MIKEY'S REFRIGERATION
MIKEY'S REFRIGERATION & SHEET METAL FABRICATION MIKE PECK THEIR UNPROFESSIONALISM AND POOR WORKMANSHIP RUINED OUT 1958 PROFESSIONALLY RESTORED PEPSI M
13th of Jul, 2011 by User779635
In 12/2003 we bought a 1958 professionally restored Pepsi Machine from a company that restores antique machines. We haven't had any problems until now. On 6/12 we noticed an ice buildup in the machine (similar to an old freezer that needed to defrost). After letting it defrost, it came back on but would not cool. We then decided to have a professional come look at it. On 6/13 we called Mikey's Refrigeration. Monty called back and set up an appointment for 6/14 between 2-4. He ended up missing two appointments, forgot one and mis-scheduled one. Then when he attempted the repair, not only did he badly botch the job, but he ruined a new rug with grease stains, left oil and/or grease all over our wood floor and never got the machine to run. He first diagnosed the problem as a blocked cap tube. He said at the time that he had to replace the tube with one that was the exact same size and length for the machine to operate properly. When he came back with the new tube, he had about 2 feet too much that he just wadded up into a mess and left saying that it was better to leave extra so it could be removed later if needed. This was just the opposite of what he had originally said. After he haphazardly installed the new cap tube and the machine still wouldn't start back up, he decided that now the compressor was bad and would need to be replaced too. We then called his boss, Mike Peck, and were told that it was not their policy to just throw parts at a machine until something worked and that he would come look at the job and complete it himself. Mr. Peck came on 6/21 and he agreed that the job was not done right and decided that there was still a blockage in the cap tube. He said that he would get a new tube and replace the one that Monty had put in. He scheduled a new appt on 6/28. He called back to tell me that the machine was not put together correctly and that he would have to rebuild the whole thing, taking at least 4 hours. Meanwhile, I called the company we bought the machine from and they told me that it was not rocket science and that the machines were made to be easily repaired by the route driver that was filling them. If they weren't working, he could just swap out parts and be on his way. They have been in business for years and sell machines not only in the U.S., but other countries as well and the machines come with a 3-5 yrs warranty. They could not offer such a warranty if they weren't restored properly. They said not to let Mr. Peck try to rebuild the whole machine. When Mr. Peck showed up on 6/28 and started to bring in his tools, I stopped him and told him that we did not want the machine rebuilt, just the original problem to be fixed. He threw his tools down, slammed the door of the Pepsi machine, and sreamed "If I can't do it my way then I don't need to be here". I showed him the way out and locked the door after him. That a grown man, the owner of a company was throwing a temper tantrum in my kitchen was beyond unprofessional. We then called another company and when the repairman from that company saw the work the other company had done, he said that it was no wonder that we weren't satisfied. He also said that the cap tube was still blocked and that because there was so much extra soder in the machine, most likely, Monty had gotten soder into the new tube causing blockage. He asked for the name and number of the company where we bought the machine so that he could call and speak to them directly about the repair. We together decided to order the parts directly from them and when they arrive he will install them correctly. Long story, short, Mikey's Refrigeration has now sent us a bill. They have included 3 hours of labor, when they were only here a total of 1 1/2 hours. They also never got the machine fixed and left in a horrible mess. I do have before and after pictures for documentation. They also ruined a rug and left a 2 inch gouge in our wood floor that we will have to have repaired. They acted totally unprofessionally - missed appointments, lously workmanship and the throwing of a tantrum. Nobody should hire such an unprofessional company and I won't ever recommend them or left them in my house again!!
