| it all started in the phase 1 of the curriculum approx a year ago. in search for a classy upsale school I chose Milan over several others in the area because of the professional feeling i had when i entered the door. Way overpriced compared to others in the area I chose them and agreed to pay thousands more for a well organized professional atmosphere than what appeared to be at several other schools in the area. well, let me just begin......... |

No freshman instructor is going to be an expert on 100% of the freshman class material. It is an introduction for 350 (state required) hours on a (state required) curriculum. Even if it was taught by Martin Pearsons, or other huge names in hair, once a stylist is in the industry, they are going to have their specialty.
The instructor in order to be successful would need to be a jack of all trades, master of none. Hair cuts, men, women, children, clipper cuts. Nails: acrylic, gels, forms. Facials: basic, chemical facial, scrubs, dermal lights (red, blue and white), electrical facials, homemade facials. Make-up: glamour, corrective, etc. Several types of Eyelashes. Waxing facial and body, hot wax and cold wax. Tweezing. Dilapatories. Chemical relaxers: Lye and no lye, base and no base, thio and sodium hydroxide. Soft curl perms. Perms: acid waves, cold waves, and 6 others and 20 ways to wrap a perm. Color theory, highlighting, bleaching, toning, glazing, refreshing, etc. Updos, blowouts, etc. Press and curls. THEN they need to know Salon business, scheduling, booking clients, marketing, goal setting, client consultations, salon psychology, interpersonal communication, anatomy, electricity, pH scales, chemistry, physiology, basic math relating to money, AND teaching styles and learning styles. AND SO MUCH MORE...
So give us Freshman Cosmetology Teachers a break. We have to teach an introduction on all that to you guys in less than 350 hours...in like 10 weeks. AND IT"S REQUIRED BY THE STATE. We are not going to be experts in every field. I am an advanced colorist who is certified in extensions...not even taught until a student is more advanced and typically by demo. If you ditch class and miss it, it may not come around again. This industry is ever changing and extensive. You can specialize as a cosmetic chemist, so that must be introduced as well.
Education is on going in this industry and 99% of new students who think know it all when they get out of school, really annoy those of us in the salon who know what the real salon world is like. It's about serving other people, and what you can give them. It should NEVER be about the stylist. Those who get that, do well...those who don't fail. |

This school is the SHADIEST, most crooked place that I've ever enrolled in! The Financial Aid people LIE to you about everything. You can't get straight answers from ANYONE working there!!! Their instructors are all pathetic incompetent SCUMBAG, PHONY SNITCHES who try to set you up for failure, and the dean- Christina Taylor is a slimy Mexican PUTA WHORE & a goddamn liar, BITCH, CORRUPT PIECE OF SHIT MOTHERFUCKING TRAMP! I would NOT recommend this school to ANYONE! |
