Ostrow and Company
Ostrow and Company Page Ostrow Empty Promises and Lies Beverly Hills, California
12th of Aug, 2011 by User872859
I signed with Ostrow and Company around March of last year. To this day, I have considered that the biggest mistake in my filmmaker career. Ostrow and Company had a film scout contact me through email after seeing my film at a festival. They requested a screener to be viewed. I sent them a screener and was contacted a few days later. The sales representative on the phone loved my movie and said Page loved my movie and touted her as the most connected producer's representative in all of Hollywood. Now I have made a few films before in the past. And with my personal experience getting films in distribution requires a lot of hard work, personal marketing, and hand holding. Most importantly if your film does not have a name cast in it, it is very hard to get distribution. Page Ostrow claims that her company typically obtains distribution for a film within three months. Now this might sound good at first until they reveal their fees: Ostrow and Company wanted $14,500 up front in addition to 20% off the domestic and 15% off the international gross. If that wasn't egregious enough they charge you for expenses. There is a clause in their contract that reads that they have to get permission for anything more than $500 dollars/month but anything under that is fair game. You will be billed for phone calls, mailings, snacks, trips, anything they want for the rest of your life. The contracts they make you sign retains them in perpetuity, which means as long as you are alive Page Ostrow can bill you up to $500 a month if she wanted to. And that is exactly what she did. Every time Page Ostrow headed to a film festival, she billed us. When she billed us $120/month for phone calls, mailings, and general administrative costs, she refused to provide us with an itemized breakdown when I asked for it. Furthermore, she never even provided receipts for the costs. That is not the only time Page charges you. Immediately upon signing up, Page charges you put up film's pictures and materials on her website with a steep price of $350. Now I have hosted websites before and also uploaded materials onto websites before, and I know for a fact that it does not cost that much to upload a couple of jpegs onto a website. That should have been fishy enough. Now you wonder if they charge so much have they been able to deliver? The answer is a resounding no. And their contract shows just that. Page Ostrow's contract promises nothing and guarantees no results. Which creates the worst nightmare of all in the service industry. You pay money for nothing. Period. Page Ostrow takes your money and markets herself buying ads in the Hollywood Reporter and radio spots, but lies through her teeth to her own paying customers. It is only a matter of time before all the filmmakers she has victimized realize how much of a fraud she is and files a class action lawsuit.
