The dark side of abortion is rarely seen. This is a warning to anyone and everyone whom may do business with Pax Beale, or, Dr. Scott Connelly.

Pax Beale currently claims to be a motivational speaker, and his wife Sophie Taggart is renting out former office space that use to house his and the good doctors abortion clinics. These were not just any abortion centers, as Dr. Death killed not only the babies in the partial birth abortions, but also the patients.

The Pregnancy Consultation Center of Oakland whereDr.Deathperformed abortions is part of a chain that is owned by clinic operator Paxton Beale. Beale, who lives in San Francisco, has at least 18 DBA's (Doing Business As) filed with the state of California. A civil lawsuit filed on August 6, 1996 by the medical board against Beale lists 18 defendants that are DBA's of Beale. Some of them include: Backpax Medical Center, Beale Medical Enterprises, King Health Corporation, King Medical Center, Plastic Surgery Corporation of Los Angeles, Plastic Surgery of Oakland, Plastic Surgery Corporation of Sacramento, and Plastic Surgery Corporation of San Jose.

In 1996, Dr. Steir killed Sharon Hamptlon while performing a second-trimester abortion. Steir was charged with second-degree murder because of his negligence in treating Hamptlon. Court records show that Dr. Steir told his assistant, Nancy Meyers "I think I pulled bowel." Alarmed, Dr. Steir reportedly put the bowel back into Hamptlon's body. The Riverside County district attorney's office contends that Steir had shown wanton disregard for Hamptlon's safety by flying home to San Francisco without making sure his patient was stable. Hamptlon was taken from the clinic to her home in Barstow by her mother. During the trip, Hamptlon seemed drowsy. She revived long enough to tell her then three-year-old son, "I love you" before she passed out. Hamptlon died shortly thereafter.

After Hamptlon's death, the medical board sought to remove Steir's license to practice medicine. Steir surrendered his license one month prior to a hearing that would have determined if the state could obtain a temporary restraining order against Steir, thereby forbidding him to practice medicine. Steir's supporters contend that he did not have the resources to fight the medical board.

Dr. Steir, who lives in San Francisco, is arguably the most high-profile among Bay Area abortionists. According to an October 24, 1997 story in the San Francisco Chronicle, Steir had been under almost continuous scrutiny by the medical board since 1988. Initially, Steir was placed on probation after the Navy complained that Steir was moonlighting abortions while on active Navy duty. In 1991, another complaint against Steir was lodged with the medical board for his failure to disclose to Kaiser Permanente that he was on probation when he went to work for them. Additionally, an Accusation was filed against him for negligence while performing an abortion. During the abortion, Steir perforated the woman's uterus. By December of 1994, the medical board took steps to revoke Steir's license to practice medicine because of his use of unlicenced practitioners to perform abortions.

Steir continued to provoke review by the medical board. In 1995, the medical board filed six Accusations against Steir, five of which involved abortions performed at the Oakland-based Pregnancy Consultation Center Medical Group which again was owned by Pax Beale, Sophie Taggart and Dr. Scott Connelly.Three of the women had to undergo hysterectomies after the abortions. In another case, doctors had to retrieve a fetal skull that had been severed during an abortion but was left in the woman's uterus during an abortion.

The Pregnancy Consultation of Pleasanton lists the same address, 5565 W. Las Vegas Positas, as does abortionist Forrest O. Smith. Smith is well know among Northern California pro-lifers. Smith has been very active in Steir's defense. The Steir Defense website contains a letter that Smith wrote to Senator Diane Feinstein that asks the senator for an introduction "to any one of a number of celebrities who are known to support reproductive rights causes. You need have no public exposure in this matter if you do not want it."

A review of medical board records shows that Smith himself received a Public Reprimand on April 15, 1996 because he and Philip King, MD, who subsequently surrendered his license, "submitted to the [medical] board ... an application for a fictitious name permit, upon which it was falsely declared under penalty of perjury that respondent [Smith] and other physicians 'wholly and entirely controlled' the Pregnancy Consultation Center and Medical Clinic...." The Reprimand goes on to state, "In fact, the Pregnancy Consultation Center facilities were wholly owned by Paxton King Beale, who was not licensed by any of the health profession boards within the State of California. Beale exercised total control over every aspect of all the Pregnancy Consultation Center facilities." The Reprimand outlines how Smith bought part of the chain from Beale in May of 1993.

In August of 1996, the medical board brought a civil suit against Paxton Beale for a preliminary and permanent injunction. The complaint reveals that besides operating various abortion clinics, Beale also operated a chain of clinics which performed a variety of procedures; "face lifts, eye lifts, brow lifts, chin/cheek, ear and nose enhancements, collagen injections, radial keratotomy to correct nearsightedness, permanent eyeliner, liposuction, breast lifts, breast reduction and breast enlargement (King Medical Center) ... and back rehabilitation (Backpax Medical Center)". The complaint outlines how widespread Beale's clinics were. Beale had clinics in Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco and Los Angeles". Beale's eye surgical clinic, King Medical Center, performed radial keratotomy, a surgical procedure to correct nearsightedness. According to the medical board's complaint, "Defendant's representations in promotional materials ... that the eye surgical procedures ... [are] performed by highly experienced physicians who are 'experts` in the field ... are board-certified ophthalmologists who are widely published and have conducted medical research at major university medical schools". The complaint then follows with, "These representations are untrue in that the sole practicing eye surgeon at King Medical Center, at the time of joining the clinic, had just completed his medical school residency, had never performed a radial keratotomy procedure on a human being, was not board certified in ophthalmology, was not widely-published and had not conducted eye research at any major university medical school."

The most troubling case is that of Dr. Philip King of Los Gatos. It's not clear what if any family relation King has to Paxton King Beale. Dr. King had to surrender his license in part because of his involvement with Paxton Beale's string of clinics. According to a December 1994 accusation filed by the medical board, in 1988 Dr. King, along with Dr. Smith, applied for a fictitious name permit, saying that they "wholly owned and entirely controlled" the Pregnancy Consultation Center and Medical Center of San Jose. Additionally, Drs. King and Smith filed for a fictitious name permit for the King Medical Center and Medical clinic of San Jose, though both facilities were owned by Paxton Beale and Dr. Scott Connelly.

In additional to the false fictitious name permits that King applied for, the accusation outlines how he "requested and received a Drug Enforcement Administration certificate for the Pregnancy Consultation Center facilities in Oakland and San Jose so as to be able to order drugs for these clinics. Respondent permitted management service staff and employees to order Schedule II controlled substances ... by providing [the clinic staff] with blank Federal drug order forms."

A supplemental accusation filed by the medical board on May 11, 1995 is the most troubling. The accusation outlines the "repeated acts of misconduct of a sexual nature committed by respondent upon his then minor daughter, S.P., beginning when she was approximately 6 years old until she was approximately 9 years old. The acts in question include fondling, masturbation, and oral sex. Respondent [King] persuaded S.P. into believing that his actions were appropriate and beneficial to her. Respondent told her to keep his actions a secret, which she did for many years. As S.P. grew older, she began to be tormented by memories and nightmares of the abuse which Respondent inflicted upon her". The Accusation then goes on to state that King's daughter severed all ties with her father and continues to suffer because of the abuse at his hands.

When Dr. King surrendered his license, a Stipulation was signed by the medical board, through its counsel of record the California attorney general's office and Dr. King. The stipulation stated that "He will not apply to the board to have his certificate renewed, restored, reissued or reinstated and will not apply for a new certificate for at least three years after the effective date of this decision...."

Dr. King surrendered his license on January 24th, 1996 at 5:10 p.m. According to the Stipulation, Dr. King could have reapplied for his license on January 24th, 1999 at 5:10 p.m.

Paxton Beale of Body For The Ages, ripped me off. He maimed me in his clinic, and his so called 'heart health' nearly left me crippled. Then that he rents out office space which use to literally murder his patients and their unborn is troubling.
