Performance Plus Marine
Performance Plus Marine Miami, Florida Sent a used marine engine to San Francisco,Ca.claiming that the engine is new. Miami Florida, Florida
3rd of Jul, 2011 by User706259
We agreed on a price for a new Mercruiser marine engine. which Performance Plus Marine shipped to us in San Francisco,Ca.What we received was a used engine ,which Mr. Robert Bower claimed was new because the factory warranty card vwas never sent in. The was dirty and we had the mechanix remove the valve covers and up inside was a lot of old oil residue. The control module had been exchanged with another control module because this thing records the engine hours. The origional control was installed before he shipped us the engine since this control module shows less than one hour.We removed the oil pan and againit shows us a used engine. The engine raw water pump impeller was chewed up frpm sand .Mr Robert Bower told us to place a claim with Mercruiser as they will not question a claim less than $500.00 This engine was probably installed in a rental boat and ran for a year or more this is the way this scam apparently works. They have been ripping off Mercruiser for warranty charges ,I contacted Mercruiser about this scamand they did not seem to care.since Performance Plus is not a Mercruiser dealer. We have invested around $2000.00in legal fees and we did not get a dime back,This guy is a real low lifeand will stack lies on top of lies.Save yourself grief and don't go near this guy.

RESPONSE FROM PERFORMANCE PLUS; The short version: is simply that we supplied a new engine, purchased directly from Mercruiser and have tried EVERY REASONABLE WAY TO HELP A loyal customer of OURS but to no avail ! PLEASE READ ON, if you care to understand the REAL FACTS...

A prior customer of OUR's, who needed another engine, gave our contact information to an engine installation shop in his local area(SF) & requested that they order a Mercruiser replacement engine, from us; that would EXACTLY MATCH the engine that we had sold him years before. HOWEVER, the customer had added an optional cooling kit ($2, 000) to the orig engine AFTER he received it from us; BUT apparently forgot to tell the shop owner that detail. Thus, when the shop owner used the model number from the original engine, to order the replacement engine from us; neither he nor us knew to include the OPTIONAL cooling kit and the shop owner did NOT factor the cost of the optional kit, in hisquote to the customer. Thus, when the engine arrived in SF, the customer noticed the "missing" cooling kit and we assume, an issue arose between the customer & the installation shop owner. To make matters worse; the engine was apparently damaged in transit (3, 000 mi's) but no one noticed it for several weeks! Fast forward several months and we get a call from the installation shop; asking that we "buy back" the engine BECAUSE they can not get the customer to pay for the "missing" cooling kit and they haved tried in vain to attach the used cooling kit, (from the 9 year old orig engine), to the new engine. THE PROBLEM with that logic, is that the old cooling kit was totally incompatable, with the new engine and they had now damaged the new engine by trying to run it with the old cooling kit. MEANWHILE; the boat owner is wigging out over missing his entire boating season and eating the cost of ANOTHER new engine; SO, THE INSTALLER TELLS THE POOR CUSTOMER THAT THE REAL PROBLEM IS THAT THE ENGINE MUST HAVE BEEN USED, IN A RENTAL BOAT. (nice touch; NOT truthful but points for immagination). Well, has you might have guessed by now, we DECLINED the installers "once in a lifetime opportunity to buy back the now useless engine, that they ruined" And the installer, as threatened, thereupon UNLEASHED THE HOUNDS OF HELL ON US... BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, CONSUMER PROTECTION AGENCIES and now the INTERNET but to no avail ...BECAUSE after 30 years & more then 1, 000 engines sold (without EVER a problem); WE SIMPLEY, WILL NEVER GIVE INTO EXTORSION! HOWEVER, FOR OUR CUSTOMERS SAKE, WE HAVE CONTINUOUSLY OFFERED TO ACCEPT THE ENGINE BACK FROM THE INSTALLER and only ask that it first be delivered to a CERTIFIED MERCRUISER DEALER, FOR AN OBJECTIVE EVALUATION AND TO VERIFY, FOR OUR CUSTOMERS EDIFICATION; THAT THE ENGINE WE SOLD THEM, WAS NEW & NEVER PREVIOUSLY REGISTERED OR USED. YET, 3 YEARS HAVE GONE BY AND THE INSTALLER STILL REFUSES...
WHAT ARE THEY AFRAID OF? the truth; and many thanks, to anyone who cared enough to read this.
