PMA Conseco Dishonest about how well his agemcy was doing Upstate, South Carolina
14th of Nov, 2011 by User242106
I can't let this go any farther without telling what happened to me. I am a hardworking individual whose never paid a bill late a day in my life. I don't (and can't) live outside of my means. I do not own an iPhone with every app and I don't wear $150 jeans. I'm someone trying to make a living. I was approached by a guy through my sister, who was a friendly acquaintance of ours. He comes from a nice family. He seems like an honest character. Anyway, he ask me if I would be interested in interviewing with him to work for his division of PMA. I agreed to meet with him. He showed me the business module. The module is based off of going to businesses and government buildings to sale cancer policies, heart & stroke policies, and universal life products. He has a woman who "gets" appointments for us to be at these locations. He assured me that his agents were making a great living. I did not want to insult him, but I asked him a few more times about how his business was doing. He assured me that his agents were doing well. He said that the agents are responsible for their lodging (hotel for out of town work) and fuel. He said they offered a program to get started: $500 advance per week for 6 weeks which equals $3000. He said that I would make it back in no time. The first three weeks was good. The next eight weeks was a disaster. I was traveling all over the place (South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia) to government buildings, schools, and business to enroll people on cancer and heart & stroke policies. These places were in horrible financial shape. Nobody was buying. I was going broke fast. I called my manager and told her that I had to leave the company. I wore out my car and my nerves. She insulted by telling me that I didn't want to work. That was a fun conversation. Fast forward 6 months. I receive a letter in the mail demanding for me to pay back the $3000 and then some. They were threatening me that they would file legal action and put the collection on my credit. Grant it: I'd never paid a bill late a day in my life. My credit was not bad. I could not pay back the money. In January, I received a call from a collector. I offered him what I could. He declined but said he would work with me. I ask him if it would go on my credit. He assured me that it would not show on my credit. He told a lie. He had already put the collection against my credit. I did not find out about this action until I pulled my credit score ten months later. By the way, I was pulling my score to apply for a low interest credit card to pay off high interest cards I have. Unfortunately, because of my score, I was declined. I have been honest. I have not ran the guy's name (guy who hired me) through the mud. I have stayed away from being dishonest. I wish he would learn the same trait. I would not have went to work for this guy if he was honest about the stability of his business. I would not owe now $4000 plus if he was honest. He was ridiculously misleading. Anyhow, stay away from PMA and other companies like PMA. Remember, there are people who make money in every industry. Most of the time it's the people near the very top. Kinda like a pyramid scheme. Everybody below gets hurt and they pay dearly
