PNC Overdraft fee on no transaction! severna park, Maryland
29th of Sep, 2011 by User778580
My husband isn't a big online shopper, or a shopper period. He buys the occasional mcdonalds, a few eats at his job, and he would charge movies or dinner to his card when we would go out (we go out once a month, max, just to limit money spent). It was after christmas and my grandmother (who raised me) just died and I was down. I spent months applying for jobs (at least 2 jobs a weekday) with no success (I am employed now), we were low on food , money and spirit. Things were incredibly tight. SO tight that my husband had only $40 left in the bank, went down to 31.76 after buying lunch at his job, then he "lost" his card. It wasn't a biggie at first because I knew the card was in the house somewhere, plus we would call every few hours (the first few days) to check for transactions and balance and everything the same. 2 weeks later everything is the same. Checked a month later (still not card), but no transactions and balance still the same, By then I had gotten a job and my husband had a habit of cashing his checks anyway (I know, even with a back account) so he didn't care as long as no one stole it. 3 months later, I called and the balance was 31.76, rep said there had not been a single transaction in months. Five months after the card has been missing (You can tell my husband didn't use his card, I am the one who convinced him to get an account and deposit some money in it every other weeK), we get an overdraft notice, the account has went over $200 in the negative.
The husband and I got frantic, called PNC who couldn't tell us what transaction or transactions got the account in the negative, WTF? I went searching around the house and the card somehoe got behind our heavy dresser- dusty as all get out from months of non use. My husband and I live alone and the last time we had visitors was before that past thanksgiving (mainly because of my grandma dieing). This seemed so weird to me, how did this all happen? We would call and NO STRAIGHT ANSWER!!!! My bank (bank of america) would at least tell you the transaction amount and where/when. THEY COULDN'T even tell us that!!!
We insisted it must be some mistakes, if it transactions we made, why did it take over 5 months to post? If it was fees - why didn't they charge them month by month? We didn't get any answers so they didn't get any money - everytime a bill collector calls about that debt we polietly tell them that PNC messed up and we will NOT pay a debt we didn't make, I told the last bill collector that we was wasting his time and that there was no way in hell that we are going to pay that, it was all fishy!!! I just want someone to know the odd behaviors/tactics of PNC, been with Bank of America for years and no weird problems like this.
