PowerProfiles.com Weird opt-out requirements for delisting mineola, New York
6th of Jul, 2011 by User546136
I am a home-based business that sells directly to the public at local craft fairs. The problem is that PowerProfiles.com has listed the wrong phone number on their website and they have listed my house address as the location. They will remove this information only if I send them the following items: 1). a business card. 2). a copy of an invoice or a phone bill with company name or owners name. 3). they also want me to fill out a request for delisting form with my signature. I understand that they want to verify owner ship, but Im finding it hard to believe sending a copy of an invoice or phone bill as a reasonable request for opting out. After all I did not ask them to list my company in the first place and find it disturbing to I have to send personal information to a company I dont even know. All want is to have my personal information removed from public view, which they have refused to do without the items listed above. Am I overreacting or is this sort of thing a normal request?

You're not overreacting. I am very concerned by their behavior. Our company asked them to remove confidential information and received the following reply:
"There are two options for revising your data on our site: The first requires an account upgrade and the second allows you to make free data changes by simply adding our badge to your website.

Option 1:
Upgrade your profile to a premium listing
A premium listing starts at $299 and allows you to utilize networking and search capability feature that make your company more visible on the web.

Option 2:
Add the PowerProfiles badge to your website
By adding the PowerProfiles verified badge to your website you will be able to make free and unlimited data changes, as well as help drive web traffic to you company’s listing

I had the same thing happen to me. I am filing a complaint with the BBB and will sue them if they do not comply with a basic business right, which is to modify incorrect info or delist the info if the business is closed.

Scam company!
They list your personal info, just for you to update or get a better service that you need to pay.
They don’t have any traffic, small company…here is how to fight PowerProfiles.com
1. Email Amazon hosting about this
2. Open a claim with BBB
3. Post BAD reviews on them, YOU MUST LET PEPOLE KNOW!
4. Sue them, you can get some cash!
5. File a small claim court, you will win

If anyone know or got the company head people information. Please post it on-line they will feel what we feel

I don't see what the big deal is? You call up, send in proof you actually own the company, and they remove you. I was initially annoyed and I called up to complain about them too. A woman explained to me that part of the reason for the form is to simply protect other businesses from their competition calling and getting all of their competitors removed.

Wow somoene copied my complaint from ripoff report. The problem is that me and my business are not separate entities. So when I send a invoice or bill it has quite a bit of personal information on it.

After all I did send them an e-mail from my company with the exact name and they have refused to call the number they have listed to verify it is correct.

I’m fine with filling out their request for delistment form but not with sending a invoice or phone bill.

Mortehl - Who did you call??? Name and number, if available? Their change form asks for a fee of almost $30 to make changes in the listing. It also asks for a great deal of confidential information which I am not about to share with them, suspicious as they are.

Ynonymous here -

I found the following to be very effective, sent to PowerProfiles customer service. I sent it yesterday afternoon, and my listing is gone this morning.

"Your site is nothing but a scam and an extortion scheme. If my
listing is not removed from your site within 10 days, I will pursue
all legal action available, including civil and criminal remedies.

You are NOT overreacting. These people are SLIME!!! They publicly list business information on their stupid site without asking for your consent. Then if you want to correct inaccuracies they require you to fill out a form and snail mail it to a PO Box with one of the following:

- Certificate of Sole Proprietorship
- Certificate of Incorporation
- Current Lease, Mortgage or Deed of Trust
- Business Registration
- Tax Registration

AND, you must include payment of $29.99 as a data modification fee.

These people are scum who are too ashamed to list their phone number or take responsibility for correcting bad information that they are posting on the web.

I hate this company, their business model is horrible and unethical. They are awful people to operate in this manner.

"Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor" PowerProfiles.com does not understand this commandment. They have my home phone number linked to a local business. They have my home phone number, name, and email address...they want more information...it's not enough. I plan to report them to the BBB. I think it's a scam too.

I can only confirm that PowerProfiles.com is scam. I have similar case listed above by others.
What can I add ? Sue them. Hackers, please trash their website (do something good).

Very similar experience. Company published false and private data as well. When we tried to take ownership of our listing, their application for that purpose was faulty though they did delist for free when we contacted by email. Yay, that part was good. When we requested to know how to prevent them from doing this same thing to us again, they stopped returning emails and form inquiries. Shows a definite disregard for customer service or the quality of their product. We're putting the word out.
