Reachlocal Deceptive Practices Chicago, Illinois
6th of Oct, 2011 by User222404
Reachlocal will force you to sign a contract without any terms and conditions present. Then, when one reads the document they just signed, it will say that you just agreed to a one way contract you can’t get out of unless you take them to court in CA. Another issue with Reachlocal is that they hide their fees and they are not motivated to cut your budget – the more you
spend the more they make. I have (1) company with two marketing arms and Scott Davis of Reachlocal would not let me treat all three websites as
one. Why? Do drive up his profits. You see when people would search for my service they would click on all three PPC ads of mine. People don’t know that all the ads are from one company and thus they will click on all three of my PPCs. For the same potential customer I was paying three times what I should be paying. Hardly search engine optimization—more like pocket book maximization. Another big problem with Scott Davis and Reachlocal: Reach Local buys online searches for my name. I have three billboards on major expressways and if someone sees my billboard and then they go home and Google “MY COMPANY NAME”, my paid ad comes up – the person clicks on the paid ad and Reach Local gets the credit for a lead that could’ve been driven by your billboard, Yellow pages, BBB or who knows what. This is a very bad thing to do. It’s POACHING or PIMPING your own customer. And Scott Davis is a Champion at it. Paid search is effective only when you target people who do not know you already. You only want to pay for online
searchers who do not know you already. Why pay for a click from someone who already knows your name? It is a waste of money and it artificially inflates the results that Reach Local is delivering. Bad, bad, bad. With Scott Davis and Reachlocal, one does not know who came from their paid efforts vs. other ads because they are buying your name. Scott Davis made claims of organic optimization. I asked him to get Google place pages for my two marketing arms…he never did. All he was interested in doing was getting more PPC. Scott Davis and Reachlocal are a pair of rotten pagans who only care about fattening their pocket book through as many
deceitful and deceptive practices they can contrive.

We signed up with them a few months back. We are getting slightly more traffic than we used to get, but we believe this is because our market has picked up.

One thing they do to make money is they bid a lot on the company name. If people are typing in a company name, they are going to find that company with or without paid advertising. We were spending so much money on our company name it was pathetic. It took 4 calls to my rep to get this removed completely for all search engines and every variation of our company name.

Now today i look at 2 of our company names are getting bids again. (but this doesn't show up in their reporting, because they mask keywords)

Stay away from reach local. Learn adwords yourself. Save 50% of your money.
