Realstar
Realstar Somerset Place They edited my lease without my consent in order to attempt to de-fraud me of 3 months of rent, and tried to say that's what I
1st of May, 2011 by User862576
Right from when I was trying to move in, I was replacing a former tenant in a roommate situation and the manager of Somerset Place (Elaine P.) told me I couldn't move in unless I paid the unpaid rent of the former tenant. I did pay that rent to appease her, I didn't yet know how mischievous she was. At that time, I signed a lease until April. My new roommate signed a new lease until July, neither of us knew the lease terms of the other person we assumed they would be the same. Once they realized we were signed to different lease terms, Elaine edited the contract I had signed, changing the April to July and tried to say that that's what I signed. When I was able to dig up a copy of the original lease, I showed it to the district manager, proving that Elaine had committed fraud. The district manager let me out of the fraudulent lease, but took no disciplinary action towards Elaine. Since then, Elaine has made several comments towards me, making it very uncomfortable to live there. At the end of the month when I left, she told the person that I had given my TV to that it was actually hers and stole it, now we are trying to get it back for my friend. My cleaning lady reported that when they came into my apartment to estimate any additional cost of cleaning they said, "Drew (me) is going to law school, he'll be rich in 5 years so he can afford to pay five hundred." Apparently, the cost of moving out depends on your employment prospects for Realstar, even if you hire your own cleaning service to clean on the day you move out. Originally, I blamed Elaine for this behavior... but I have sent numerous emails outlining all of Elaine's behavior and illegal activities (both towards myself, and other residents of the building) and Realstar took no disciplinary action. Realstar is clearly a company that does not care about the integrity of the people they hire or the satisfaction of the customers they serve. Some additional grievances:
- The building locks you out of the garage for 30 minutes every time you use it, to prevent people from sharing access - but this causes huge problems for residents sometimes.
- Because the former tenant of my suite did not return his mail key, I was refused one for the entire year I lived there. I had to get my roommate to check my mail.
- Extreme rudeness on behalf of building management, upper management is very dismissive unless you threaten legal action. My reports of fraud were met with 'everything looks fine here, you're responsible for the full lease' until I indicated that I would pursue legal means to rectify the fraud.
- Very high rate of crime in the building, contrary to their claims of being very safe when you move in. The employees of Realstar apparently can be as dishonest as they like, as long as they secure renters and profit.
