Rockenbach Chevrolet Rockenbach Chevy Bait and Switch to get your good trade in and screw someone else over!! Internet
3rd of Nov, 2011 by User948375
Read this and save yourself major grief!!! Use cash and finance through your own bank!!! Rockenbach Chevrolet claims to work with banks- listen people these are NOT banks- because banks in Illinois are regulated to not charge any more than 9% interest on loans- they use OUT-OF-STATE loan sharking CORPORATIONS who can charge (LEGALLY) whatever they want and can change the terms ANY TIME!!! This is very important- the distinction between these two kinds of things- these companies can under our laws do almost anything they want once you sign with them. Rockenbachs contracts also claim that if they misrepresent anything the contract can be voided, but they'll never admit it! Never! They are slimy, screwy, and totally dishonest- there are several websites devoted to "ratings" for car dealerships- one of them has 76 high ratings for Rockenbach Chevrolet which if you begin to read them, you start to realize: these are not written by customers- they contain few grammar and spelling errors and are glowing, literally glowing ad nauseum- about the service, the sales, the cars- you would think you've frigg'n entered Willy Wonka's Chocolate factory!! In fact, you have, only your golden ticket is a piece of worthless paper in the form of a scandalous contract! Congratulations!!! Five years ago I bought a car from a dealership in Grayslake, IL near my parents' home, Rockenbach Chevrolet. They offered to take my old car, give me a decent trade in value, and when I looked at their used selection they ultimately offered me a car I wasn't all that interested in, but I test drove it anyway. Honestly, the only thing I liked about it was that it had four doors and was a pretty color- it was really too small for a family my size. When I submitted the documents to them for financing I had NO idea- neither do most people who have bad credit or poor money management skills- that I would be signing a deal with a private corporation, not a bank, which could charge whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted, in interest rates. Completely legal. Furthermore, I had no idea that the same company could take late payments on top of the interest without adding to the principal value of the loan! They lie (believe me, I was lied to- more than once- just one thing was the interest rate I signed up for that was jacked 7% a week after I tried to return the car, which the dealership said it couldn't do and was "against their policy"). These people start off super nice and then after they've shafted you, they treat you like complete crap- I felt like they had pretty much stolen my car from me which I owned outright, and then basically jacked the interest rate without any notice- or even excuse! Seriously- they acted like it was my fault- that it was a good deal. Good deal? A payment of 320 per month on a economy car whose parts almost all came out of China? To make it seem more legitimate they made buddies with me. They gave me a can of cold Sprite, some lunch, offered to place an A/C in the car, since I told them there was no way I'd take it without it- free of charge. This they did, but like everything else it was a trick- apparently to get me just to take the car. They even lied about giving me an extra key! Talk about cheapening the deal! Cost me $35 for one key! When I showed the car to my Mom and Dad they completely freaked out. They were not as upset about the car’s appearance as they were when they saw the contract: 17.9% interest. My Mom and I returned to the dealership where we tried to surrender the car and get my old car back- this was within three hours of signing the contract. However, they acted as though the deal was set in stone. They made us feel really uncomfortable and powerless- jostling us from one room to the next with various serious looking men in suits. At that point I knew I was stuck with a car I didn't want! The dealership made it sound as if I could not get out of it- no matter what I did or said. So, dejected, we left. In retrospect, I believe I should have rattled some cans and been far more assertive and aggressive- like them, and insisted they return my car- no matter what I had signed. They downplayed the urgency,too- they tried to make it seem good. Back home, my Mom called her lawyer who had helped them with real estate law who said I was out of luck once I signed the contract. However, he was probably unaware, as I was, of what kind of deal I’d entered in to- most of the people I know personally who have financed a car have done so through a bank and have no idea that such dirty deals are common, but only if you have the financial acumen of a desperado trying to sell his dirty socks on eBay! A week later, Rockenbach sent via FedEx a new contract with new terms: 24%. When I phoned them they told me that was the deal and there was nothing I could do about it- after all, it wasn't very much more than 17%!! I suppose not if you can keep the payments current, but if you end up under water- forget it- and that's what happened to me. I had another baby, lost the good paying job I had and then fell in to a financial abyss I never recovered from- the late payments were $28 per week, plus the interest racking up faster than the accrual of any equity!! I ended up after nearly 5 years of paying with $2400 in equity and $7500 in interest- just interest!! I would like to see Illinois state laws change that allow car companies to finance automobiles through private corporations out of state. It is my belief that the only institutions that should be able to finance cars are banks which usually have a cap on the interest rates they charge for lending. I signed a bad deal like this by these scumbags who know the statutes well and play people like me because they can see us coming: we have a decent job, but no assets, we have no real savings or money put aside, no real estate, no stocks, bonds or dividends- they LOVE people like us! We’re like an unharvested gold mine of late fees, deferred payments, and of course, repossessions- just more cash for them to throw at their shareholders. Upon further investigation in to that company, I found that they were extremely “dedicated to [their] shareholders” in a letter from the president on their website. How nice it must be to hold so many cards and make the stakes so high as to be impossible to surmount for people like me! Here we just keep reselling junk- because that is “capitalism” unfettered. I just don’t get how this serves anyone except for the companies doing all the reselling- during this whole ordeal I have felt utterly powerless and helpless to do much but pay. And when I couldn’t pay I’d be on the phone telling my story EVERY SINGLE MONTH to a different person! And I was- this company they finance their deals through is a total loan sharking operation! If a dealer happens to get my car at auction, they will probably stick a price tag back on it that far exceeds even its value in metal- which is another reason I think this whole idea is wrong, wrong, wrong. And upon investigating if there is any recourse for me at all- there are lists of protections for Illinois corporations on the books that help maintain competitiveness and allow them to sell at prices, but very few, for actual consumers. I want to know what I can do to change this law and I plan to do just that. I see how powerful these companies who sell cars are and the companies they use to finance them. They literally prey on the people who really have limited ability to pay! By that I don't mean a job, but no real assets- it must be a delightful find for them when they see how little you do have and how they can take more of it!! Though my story may not be read and probably fall on deaf ears: I’m sorry that corporations own our country, our politicians and nearly all of our wealth. And I’m living proof with my story of the car I thought I “bought” but actually rented from a corporation not even in my state. Tell your children to hide their hand, because in this day and age, everyone, and I mean everyone is looking over your shoulder! And never ever show it to Rockenbach- because they sure have a "rock'n" business over there, all right- and all they need is fresh meat- don't mutilate yourself for them!! They are scammers and scum!!! They can put up as many websites as they want, but they are still crackpots- and eventually, they will run out of new bodies to foist their scams on...hopefully!
