Rodd Sala
Rodd Sala Rodd Sala can be you worst nightmare car salesman for Rolls Royce North Barrington, Illinois
29th of Apr, 2011 by User984963
The complaint regarding the 1977 Rolls Royce remains absolutely valid and Rodd Sala is the stereotypical car salesman who employed all the tricks of underhanded misrepresentation here. Anyone contemplating purchasing one of his 'collector cars' is well advised to have a Rolls Royce specialist check the car very very carefully. In his eBay ad it specifically stated he 'carefully' put the car thru its re-commissioning and everything worked. The wood photos attached will easily demonstrate the quality of his word and anyone can plainly see what he calls 'fantastic' wood is really junk. He spends 80% of his ad telling you how perfect the car is and that he isn't embarrassed to price it so high as it is one of the best; and 20% of his ad is the "as-is, where-is" disclaimer--this way he gets it both ways. If this car was the 9 1/2 out of 10 that he said it was, then how could it have required $7,000 worth of repairs---that is certainly not a happenstance failure. So much for his 'technical, legal and moral' responsibility. It is and remains a gross misrepresentation of the car---plain and simple. He now states he holds a dealer license, but we presume he sold these $1,000,000 (yes, well over one million dollars) worth of cars privately and therefore doesn't have to meet state requirements for auto sales. To me that would appear as a self invented fence to hide behind and provide the buyer with no protection. I sense the State of Illinois might take a different point of view. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if these dealer sales by this 'self-professed professional car collector' might have to answer to both state and federal authorities regarding irregularities in the manner he has been conducting 'business'. I see in his rebuttal he has the audacity to suggest the shipper may have damaged the wood and pieced in the repairs. What absolute nonsense!! Yes, I purchased the car a year ago and I have carefully documented the many weeks and months of delay Sala has built into each and every step of the process of communication claiming illness of his technician, illness of his family, a trip to CA for his mother, a trip to Italy for his family, a 5 week delay in shipping the single rebuilt accumulator he sent. It goes on and on----the man is NOT the man who writes these glowing ads for eBay and stands behind his cars, etc., etc. He offered to buy back the car and I was then willing to accept a $5,000 loss on the repairs and he reneged. He promised $650 as half of the wood repairs and that has NEVER come. Need I say more??? His rebuttal photos are lovely for my $25,000 car, they sure sold me-----but the real picture is the one of the repair bills for work he should have completed before he sold the car AND he knew it too. What he called a 'weeping' accumulator was pouring out fluid from day one. The ice cold A/C he claimed in the ad never worked at all. The wood you'll see by blowing up the photos. Deal with this ultra-smooth operator at your own risk!!!!

Sadly... Buyers like Dr Robert Schoenberg simply should not buy classic cars. This is a +/-35 year old Rolls-Royce which cost (on adjusted values) some $400, 000 new. He paid $25, 000 for a VERY nice car - NOT a perfect car. My advert very clealy stated that. I made every effort to make Mr Schoenberg happy but he simply refuses to be.

It is importnat to note. If he was unhappy with his purchase, the very first port of call should have been me. You dont unilaterally have the car repaired and then expect me as the seller to foot the bill. As mentioned to him, I would have happily attended to the repair but I was not even given the opportunity to do so.

I have offered to buy the car back for its full purchase price, but I cannot be expected to pay for a 3rd party repair - work which I would have done myself. Sadly, the $7, 000 Dr Schoenberg spent should have cost less than half that so he should be also taking this up with the repairer. If I had done this "in-house" then of course it would have been considerably less.

I think a perosn who continues to write these nasty attacks for more than a year after purcahse really is saying something else. And I simply wish he would stop. There should be a "process", outside of expensive civil legal avenues, to prevent people doing these things. It is very damaging to one's reputation.

Please have a look at this link. These are the original photos of the car. As previously mentioned the adjusted current day claue of this car is about $400, 000. The modern day replacements is some $350, 000. The Doctor paid $25, 000! Please look at the photos and make your assesment on its value.

Once again, I would be very pleasaed to buy the car back from Dr Schoenberg!

Please, if you have any doubt as to the sincerity of this vehcile and/or sale please contact:
