My Rowenta iron sparked so my daughter unplugged it and went downstairs to tell her dad. Within moments the iron caught fire at the base of the iron. Fortunately I saw the fire through the window and we were able to put it out with the only casualties being our iron and ironing board.
When I contacted Rowenta I was very disappointed in the customer service. They told me there had never been a recall on any of their irons. They also said they needed to inspect the iron to be certain it wasn't my fault. I mailed them the iron and heard nothing for a few weeks. Then I got a legal document in the mail I was to sign and have notarized then return to them. At that point they would replace my iron. There was no letter attached, no explanation of what they found out, no I'm sorry your family was almost engulfed in flames. I sent an email stating my dissatisfaction with the customer service and was basically told that their inspection revealed no clear cut answers and that they were offering the iron to me to be fair. The release of claims I was signing was a formality.
I just did a search on the internet and read a disturbing amount of complaints involving Rowenta irons and their tendency to spontaneously ignite at the base of the iron. I haven't signed the document yet. I am not anxious to own another Rowenta so I don't really want the new iron, but I feel they need to do something. Had they initially shown a little regret and sympathy for what happened along with concern that others have had a similar problems with their product I may not be writing this today. But they were accusatory, indifferent, and acted as though this was an isolated issue and couldn't possibly be due to their construction. Any advice would be welcomed. Thank you. |

| This morning I plugged in & turn on my Rowenta Iron and walked away for less than 5 minutes. I walked back in the room it was filled smoke and I unplugged the iron it immediately burst into flames. This iron was shooting flames out of the bottom and the soder inside the iron plates was so hot & flaming it was leaking fire balls on my carpet. I had to run to put it into the bathroom sink and fill water in a trash can to put out the fire on the carpet in my bed room. I have NEVER been so frightened in all my life. This is SUPPOSED to be an Auto shut off iron, don't believe it for a second. I wil Never Ever Purchase a Rowenta again, BAD, BAD PRODUCT. mY RECOMMENDATION IS FOR A FULL RECALL OF ALL ROWENTA IRON UNTIL THIS PRODUCT IS CORRECTED. IF YOU OWN THIS IRON DO NOT LEAVE IT FOR 1/2 SECOND UNATTENDED, OR IT WILL BURN YOUR HOUSE DOWN. 7-1-11 |
