I recently stayed at the Royal Sonesta hotel in Boston/Cambridge. Ahead of time, I requested a room with 2 beds as I was traveling with a non-intimate friend. On the day of check-in, we arrived at 2:15 PM (normal check-in is 3 PM) in the hopes that we could check in early. Unfortunately, there were no rooms available at the time. The front desk took down all of our information and told us to come back at 3:00 PM as we would be all set to grab our cards and get in to our room. Unfortunately, at the same time we were also informed that there were no 2 bed rooms left, but that we could have a cot in our room. All it would have taken was a simple phone call, but ultimately this isn't the most disappointing thing that happened. When 3:00 PM rolled around, we again went to the front desk, but were surprised when we were told that there were still no rooms available and that it would be a 25 minute wait. Unfortunately, we had reservations for 4:00 that we needed to get to. Finally, at 3:25 or so we were called to the front desk and were told that they had a room. But, by the time we finished the check-in process and finally got to our room, we were running late. Ultimately, we ended up being late to our reservation, thus making us look incredibly bad. Ultimately, when you say check in is 3:00 PM, I expect to get the keys to my room at that time. Overall, a terrible experience and completely unacceptable for a hotel that was supposed to be 4 stars.
