I recently purchased a ShelterLogic canopy tent from Hayneedle.com based on the glowing ad from their website - needless to say when I received the item it was not even close to what was advertised it was of poor quality and the poles were made of low grade metal - the welds were sloppy and poorly made as well. The instructions were confusing and it took over 6 hours to set it up with several other people assisting. Overnight the roof of the tent tore off and collapse and rain destroyed all my exposed artwork that I was displaying for a weeklong exhibit. After speaking with several customer service representatives at Hayneedle - whom stated it was merely a shade tent and not made to endure the elements (which on the site they have it advertised as a heavy duty all purpose canopy) They finally stated if I returned the canopy they would refund the money and that they really did not have to because it wasn't covered in the warranty. This does not excuse the fact that this tent failed the first time I used it and it caused extensive damage to my artwork because of it. I purchased this item based on the glowing advertisement on the site and when I received it was of poor quality and resembled nothing like how it was advertised on the Hayneedle site. Upon doing an internet search of Shelterlogic products there are countless similar stories and complaints about this companies products, customer service, and overall business practice. I do not understand how this company can describe themselves as the leading manufacturer of canopies and they do not even stand behind their products. The following is an email I sent to James Raymond - President of ShelterLogic and I have of course received no response - I do plan to follow up with the BBB of CT as well as the Attorney General to file a formal complaint about this company. Dear James - I am writing to you concerning a recent purchase of your product - ShelterLogic 20 x 10 All-Purpose Canopy with Extension Item# NA014from the Hayneedle.com website.I am an artist from Berea, Ohio which is near Cleveland and I planned to participate in the Brimfield Antique show last week to exhibit my paintings, drawings, and sculptures. I secured a 40' x 40' space and then I went to hayneedle.com and judging from the ad for this canopy felt it would best serve my needs art this show. I planned on extending one side up and the other down. I received the canopy several days before I left and drove 10 hours to the site and began set up on Sunday evening for the week long exhibit. Upon opening the box for the first time the instructions were very confusing and it took over 6 hours to properly set up the canopy with 4 people assisting me - all of whom have experience in setting up tents. Once the tent was finally set up I then set up the interior of the space with my sculptures, paintings, and drawings to prepare for the opening day the following morning. I left for the evening and it rained that night - not a hard raid just a typical rain. Upon returning to the tent in the morning the side canopy roof failed over the night and tore away from the grommets and all my artwork was exposed to the elements all night and rain soaked and destroyed. I had to leave the show early due to the extensive damage to my artwork and drove 10 hours back to Cleveland. Upon calling hayneedle this morning and speaking to several different people, I finally spoke to a Kylie who stated that this tent was merely a shade tent and was not intended to be in the elements. She stated I can return the item for a refund but this does not address the fact that I had several years of artwork that I produced that was severely damaged because this item failed. Upon reviewing the site again it clearly states that this is an all purpose canopy and "the ShelterLogic 20x10 All-Purpose Canopy with Extension, a professional-quality canopy that effortlessly provides instant shade and protection from the elements. Housing a number of excellent innovations in shelter design and built from only the most dependable materials, this canopy promises to work perfectly in any situation - from decks and patios to vehicle storage and special events."From the manner that this canopy was listed I felt this would fit my needs and the end result was that it failed after one night and destroyed all the items I entrusted it to secure. I have never gone to the lengths to ever write to someone and complain about a product but I feel I purchased a product that was not properly advertised and misleading and ultimately I sustained a considerable loss because of it. I feel that you should be aware of this being the president of this company and the fact that myself as an artist dropping down $300 is a lot of money and then to have this happen to me.
