Sleepy's Tricks
1. Virtually all their mattress are rebranded by the manufacturers with names unique to Sleepy's. So if Sterns and Foster makes a "Delux" model, that same mattress becomes a "Super" in Sleepy's.
2. As a result, you can never use their Low Price Guarantee, because they will claim that other mattress you see somewhere else for hundreds less is not the same. In fact it is, but the name is different.
3. They inflate the "regular price" significantly, then offer you a discount.
4. Assuming you fall for it, you are then told you have to buy a "mattress protector" or the "warranty" will be void. They offer you one for free that is made for an incontinent child or old person, which would make your new expensive mattress feel like an inflatable plastic toy; so you opt for the other choice, the $150 one, which you could buy elsewhere for $35.
5. Thinking it's getting a little pricey, you comfort yourself with the thought that it's over only to learn you have to pay for delivery. Another $100. Well, okay. But wait, then you learn you have to pay to have them haul away the old stuff. Another $35, which they lie and tell you they have to charge, because it's the law that they have to verify they are disposing of the old pieces; charging you is the only way to do that.
5. They sell defective merchandise. The NJ Attorney General sued them for deceptive pricing and selling defective goods. AGs don't waste their time on groundless consumer cases.
6. Case in point. I wound up spending $1800 for a Sterns and Foster I saw later in Sears for $1350, after I had to return a Serta PS that was sagging after one week and outgasing the h**l out of me.
