In June 2010 I purchased a 2005 GMC Jimmy with 52,000 Km from what I believed to be a well established, reputable dealer in Kamloops, BC ~ Kamloops Hyundai - co-owned by Anthony Muzzillo of Smith Chev Cadillac. Cosmetically the vehicle was in good shape and appeared to have been well taken care of. With such low mileage, who would expect a major problem? I purchased the vehicle in good faith. Five months later, with 62,000 on it, the transmission failed to the tune of $3161.14! The mechanic I took it to said the transmission had been going for a while because of all the fine debris in the pan and the torque converter finally just failed. On further inspection my mechanic told me that the transmission had been out of the vehicle once already because the bolt that holds the transmission fluid dip stick was gone. The only way to remove that bolt is to pull the transmission. Hmmmm...... He also told me that 5 months ago, that transmission would have been slipping and they SHOULD have noticed it. Obviously they chose to ignore that and pass the problem on to me. The history of the vehicle, that I got from the salesman (Kevin) was that it was a friend of his who was a contractor who traded the vehicle in because it was 2 door and they needed a 4 door because of their growing family. My mechanic told me the only way a transmission would blow like this is if it had been towed behind an RV or was used to haul heavy loads. Contractor -> heavy loads -> hmmmm.... I spoke with co-owner Anthony Muzzillo after his sales manager Doug Weeks hung up on me!! Mr Muzzillo felt confident that they did a good inspection on the vehicle and because i didn't purchase the extended warranty ...too bad for me. Would you feel the need to buy an extended warranty on a 5 year old vehicle with 52,000 Km?????
