SquareTwo Financial Commercial Funding aka Collect America Commercial Services, Inc. and/or Julie Kaplan (former President/CEO) purportedly sold the company's list of clients to another collection agency, Coface. The clients were sold off despite the fact that SquareTwo Financial still holds their former sales associates to a non-compete which prohibits theses former employees from contacting the people that they had relationships with for several years.
I don't know if this practice of selling the client list off is legal, but I know in my heart it is unethical especially since SquareTwo Financial never notified the clients or former employees that they had done so. The only notice any of these clients ever received was a letter dated October 25th, 2010, that stated SquareTwo Financial Commercial Funding "has recently decided to change business processes that directly affect your accounts receivable management. Effective December 1st, 2010, SquareTwo Financial Commercial Funding will no longer be accepting contingency debt placements and are solely focusing on purchasing commercial debt portfolios."
The letter goes on to instruct the clients receiving the letter to "Please feel free to call Jen Price, manager of Client Services, with your questions and concerns. She can be reached directly at (303) 304-0912." The irony in this last part is the fact that the number listed is a cell # for Jen Price, she is also Julie Kaplan's daughter and is now the Director of Client Services for Coface!!! Never in all my years working for the company have I seen them list an employees direct cell phone number. However, it all makes complete sense to me now. SquareTwo Financial and Julie Kaplan are nothing but a bunch of white collar criminals!
