starmax, roberto garcia, santiago perez International calling card scam las vegas, searchlight , Nevada
10th of May, 2011 by User765700
On Friday May 6, 2011 I received a call from a Roberto Garcia offering me an opportunity to work for a company called Starmax selling International calling cards. As a father of 5 children who has been out of work for over 2 yrs and directly affected by the GM layoff (worked for a supplier here in TN) I have been desperate to provide for my family.
Mr. Garcia offered me the chance to buy 4 hr calling cards for 1 dollar a piece. I was reluctant to get involved so I told him to call me back after 2 hrs. I did some research on the company, looked up their address on the internet and could not find anything suspicious. I decided to take a risk and bought 300 cards.
What sold me was the fact that I did not have to give them any personal financial information, only pay the COD when my package was delivered. Fedex delivered my package, but when I opened it instead of finding the calling cards and sales equipment I pulled out 3 boxes of knock-off colognes.
My hopes of providing for my family were dashed. I called them and could not get in touch with Mr. Garcia, instead I spoke to Santiago Perez who told me they made a mistake, the person who did it was no longer with them, etc., etc. Mr. Perez told me they would send my package and I would get it the next day. Nothing came. Mr. Perez then told me they would refund my money, but I have not seen that either.
After doing a more thorough investigation I discovered they are working out of at least three different locations, primarily around the San Fernando Valley, CA area.
300 dollars is a lot of money for us, but what this company and these people did to my family hurt us more than financially. They sold us hope and failed to deliver. There are still no decent jobs here in TN and what few jobs are available are minimum wage and would cost more to put gas just to get to work, IF I were hired. Considering how many people are still out of work it is unlikely though I keep trying.
I'm not so much interested in getting our money back, it seems futile to try, but I believe these people should be put out of business and prosecuted. From now on, if anyone calls my house offering me anything I will just hang up.
